MCAT Advanced − Anywhere

are the people in your advance course people who've previously taken the mcat?
What if someone takes a diagnostic and scores very well. can they switch from the regular course to the advance course?

Can people in the anywhere online courses email instructors?

@mzblue - Great questions! The students in the MCAT Advanced class are a mix; some have taken the real MCAT before and scored well, but not quite as well as they would have liked, while others are first time testers who scored well on a Practice Test or the Diagnostic exam. All students must have scored at least a 27 to enroll in the Advanced course, and the instructors are 99th percentile scorers as well.

In all of our Anywhere courses (as well as the On Site courses) students are not only allowed but encouraged to email their instructor with questions. Anywhere classes also have a number of TAs whom you can contact with questions or concerns, so you'll have several points of contact to get the answers you need!

I am leaning heavily towards the MCAT Anywhere course. I like the idea of a classroom setting, but I am concerned about ending up in a class with a lot of people in it, which can sometimes be distracting. Additionally, I admittedly do have some concerns about instructors. Logic seems to suggest instructors in the handful of online classes going on at a given time would be better and more experienced than people chosen from a more limited pool in each individual city where a class exists.

Is this incorrect? I am very interested in comparing and contrasting the differences between the online and on-site versions.

That's a good assessment Eli; the teachers for our Anywhere courses are definitely some of our best teachers around. Not only do they have to be experienced On Site teachers who have been consistently rated excellent by their students, but they then go through additional and extensive training to help them get the most out of the online classroom environment. In addition, the TAs help manage student questions in the Anywhere classes to make sure that you're not getting lost in the shuffle.

Can you tell me if lectures are available for review after they are completed? I notice on the website that you have access to on-demand lectures if you miss a class, but are these the actual lessons from your instructor, or are they just the same ones available to those who purchase the on-demand courses?

Hi Eli!

The Anywhere course lectures are recorded for internal use only, whereas the Videos on Demand are pre-recorded by our most experienced faculty members and available to you at ANYTIME!

If you miss one of your online course sessions, you have two options to make-up this class:
1) Email customer.care@kaplan.comto receive a list of upcoming LIVE online class sessions. Pick one for a make-up that suits your schedule and let that instructor know what class you're normally in.
2) Watch the relevant Video on Demand from your online syllabus (two videos can be watched for make-up credit - otherwise you can watch as many as you want!)

Hope this sheds some light on the subject! [AND - Kaplan never penalizes you for missing a class - our make-up classes are always FREE!!!]

What do you think are some of the main advantages and disadvantages to the online course as compared to a live course? How are the disadvantages addressed?

It's not really a matter of advantages and disadvantages, as much as it is an issue of personalization. Many students who select our traditional On Site course do so because they find that they have trouble paying attention in an online class - being there in person with the instructor right in front of them helps keep them accountable. By the same token though, students in our Anywhere classes love the flexibility that's offered by the online class - they can literally attend from anywhere with an internet connection, which makes it easier to manage schedule conflicts and saves extra time for studying that otherwise might be spent in traffic.

To be fair, there are some course offerings that can only be taken one way or the other; the MCAT Summer Intensive Program is only available as an On Site course, while the MCAT Advanced class can only be taken as an Anywhere course (for now ).

As you can see, you'll want to think about your own study habits and situation and choose the style of delivery that's best suited to your needs. If I sign up for the advantage course but score above a 28 on my diagnostic, is there anyway I can get bumped up to advanced?
