SDN Members don't see this ad. (About Ads)
my rejection was pre-LOR request. Likely because of extracurriculars. Training 20+ hrs per week and traveling almost every weekend for competitions didn't do me any favors time-wise. But I did my best with what free time I had so no regrets.

Those were jokes about how with those other strong qualifications, what could have possibly caused his rejection.

But by the sound of his post^ as well as others, it's ECs that heavily factor into LOR requests.

I can confirm this as I had a quick chat with a member from the admissions staff asking about this. They do indeed look at your ECs and based on that decide whether or not to issue you a LOR request

I guess this is good news since I consider my EC's a bit weak and still got an LOR request. Maybe my in-state status helped a tiny bit or who knows with Mayo.

I received a LOR request last week. MD Apps for my stats. After reading this thread I'm surprised I received one. Good luck to everybody!

Your ECs are good and diverse, especially the biking. For some reason, a lot of matriculates are runners/bikers. When it comes down to it, we can only guess at what they want.

hmm does mayo send an email saying they got the LOR after they request it? My LOR is already in AMCAS and I haven't heard of any updates.

They will send an email eventually. There are a bunch of us just waiting for the LOR received/Complete email, so you're in the same boat. I'm sure someone will post when they get the confirmation.

hi guys!

just got my lor request. am in shock since my gpa and mcat scores are nothing spectacular. i've a feeling they're putting more weight on extracurriculars than expected when issuing lor requests.

good luck to everybody!

looks like the autoconfirmation of payment was july9, and the actual mayo confirmation email of it was july11. i'm not totally wiggin out yet or anything, just being a little neurotic watching hundreds of engines rev then take off at a starting line with 50,000 other people. even though we're not all going the same place it raises my heart rate to not GOGOGO when lots of other people have left the gate

And as I've said before (and will say again) this cycle is not like the last; I'm betting that they've received a lot more applications due to being ranked. It seems like the timeline ought to be thrown out the window, as this time last year, there were many LOR complete emails and a year before that, there were already interview invites.

I'd love if a current Mayo could comment on this, if they're more buried than usual and why they decided to be ranked. They couldn't have waited until next year??

If it makes you feel any better, I paid and got confirmation on the exact same days, and am also waiting on an LOR request... Anxiety, commence...

You know what would be beautiful. If they can skip the LOR received email and go right ahead and pull the trigger (interview invites and rejections).

Agreed. There is a certain safety in knowing there is one email before you get told yes or no, but I just want to know!

Maybe they are not sending out LOR received emails this year... who knows. I feel like if they were going to send them out they would have done so already, right? It's been about three weeks since they sent out the first LOR requests. If I remember correctly the turnaround between the LOR requests and LOR received emails wasn't this long last year...

4 weeks. I was in the first batch of LOR requests and I received that email on July 1st.

And no, it wasn't this long last year. It was about 2 weeks last year, and interviews within a week from now. Of course, two years ago, there were already a few interview invites.

Yep - they wanted to know if my Orgo class included lab (as my transcript does not specify).

Cleared it up - now waiting for LOR request hopefully

You should see last year's thread. At least we haven't yet devolved into serenading any passing Mayo adcoms with Shakespearean-esque dialogue.

Though I swear that if I get an interview, I'm totally writing a sonnet. In iambic pentameter and including a rhyming couplet at the end.

Default hi

hey guys! so I just submitted my payment yesterday. does that mean I won't know of my fate (rejection/request for LOR) anytime soon? Even if AMCAS has my LOR, do they still request LORs?

i have no idea how the pile gets sorted once you pay - if they go in order i guess it could be a bit. if they prioritize based on any number of mystery factors, maybe not.

my understanding for the LORs though is that they will send you the email saying "we request your LORs now" but you don't have to do anything if the letters are ready to go with AMCAS - they'll pull them after notifying you.

This has to have been somewhat recent. Somehow, I got the picture of a little kid in grade school passing notes, but the vocabulary would have been rather impressive. Congrats on your engagement!

Exciting...I would also assumes this means that there probably isn't a "complete e-mail" being sent this year.
