If they're in the northeast, they might not even have power yet... seriously. Some schools/businesses will be out for days (in addition to the millions of people without power).

Thanks, but they aren't. The farthest northeast I've got is Western Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh), and this site is west of that.

really, wow. I remember Chicago and DC last year absolutely getting blanketed, but I think that was later in the season.
I can only hope they will understand that it was not an intentional mistake, and will allow APPIC to fix that. |

... And when I was applying to grad programs, Fordham's secretary really messed up interview scheduling/communication and then I got a nasty email from the director of the program that he had to rescind and apologize for when I forwarded him my emails with the secretary... So he did a phone interview with me, about an hour after our scheduled time because he claimed he had been dialing the wrong number... for an hour, I guess. Someone pointed out that I probably wouldn't want to deal with the requirements of a program where everything was chaotic. So yeah, at least this happened early on so you can add more sites with later deadlines if you want. Good luck! |

EDIT: For whatever it is worth, they were also the first (of the sites I applied to) to send out interview offers. Got mine on Nov 12! You may not have to wait long with that site! (caveat - they have multiple tracks which may send out interviews at different times and offers may be spread out over more than one day even for one track. Just because they offered early last year doesn't mean they will this year. Thus ends the small print. )

That is just awful! You are right, if a place is that rigid, you don't want to go there. One of my friends had a similar experience last year; she could not get to an interview in DC because her flight was canceled due to the snow, and if she waited an extra day to fly out she was going to miss an interview in another city...and the site in DC pretty much told her "oh well" that was the only additional day they would do interviews and they would not work out any other interview dates with her, even though she was willing to drop the $ to fly back there at some other time. So she chose not to fly to DC because she figured it was not worth it to be at a site that wasn't going to be flexible. I know it takes a lot of planning for sites to interview us, but...when you have interview dates in January, which is the snowiest month on the East coast, you just need to be more flexible than that. This is also why you don't want to book your interviews back to back. |

Nope. I'm worried b/c it is technically already Nov. 1 on the east coast. will I have missed all these deadlines?
I can call them first thing tomorrow to try to rectify. |

woot! submitted my first 8 today (ones where the deadline was 11/1).
By the end of the week, I'm planning to get the other 7-8 that are 11/14 & 11/15 all done and turned in. Soooo much less anxiety now though. |

I haven't had any luck, but I sent an email to the support people (support@appicas.org). They're closed until tomorrow morning, but if everyone who's having trouble sends a message to report the problem, hopefully it will be clear to them that it's an issue. I'm really hoping that this doesn't prevent them from accepting my applications - I've got 2 due on the 1st to submit still.

Good thinking - I e-mailed too. I have all 8 left, as I wanted to do them all at once. Hopefully there's no problem here ... I suppose we really do have until tomorrow late evening.
Thanks for the support! |

I just did the same thing.....paid by money order
I thought I would be able to back out of it, but it went through right away. Even worse, I did not print the money order page in my fit of panic! I did get a message that said my application had been successfully sent to my designated programs via e-mail. Maybe that is a good sign? |

I'm in the same boat with the money order ordeal -- emailed and now waiting helplessly. Although the email from APPIC claims I've successfully submitted the application, the "Designations" tab under "Status" tells me that they have been "Paid" but not "Completed." This is a little alarming since the one I submitted yesterday and payed by credit card has the "Completed" box checked off. Ohhhhh, I love ruminating...

Is anyone else unable to designate additional sites right now? I think my problem may have just gotten worse as the application fee is probably tied into the money order bill. This may mean I can't designate additional sites until payment is received.

So I called around 9am EST, and it took maybe 5 minutes to get through. Unfortunately, he could not fix it at that moment and said he'll call me back (so this was nearly 2 hours ago). My guess is they are busy fixing the money order issue, but I hope they can fix mine too before Nationwide closes their portal. I need it fix anyways because APPIC wouldn't let me pay for my other designations until this error is fixed.

I've been trying to call APPIC all morning but I cannot get through- it seems their phone is now off. I tried to apply to a site, due date Oct 31st, all night last night, then finally sent in the money order this morning. My friend was told this morning that the problem is "all fixed" now, but it seems not.
If anyone has any information/updates, that would be helpful. Also, can anyone get through to APPIC or are all phones off? |

Wow, busy night on here and the listserv. Did everyone get the credit card stuff worked out? And the money order issue?
This didn't happen last year, not even close, even on the same date (which was over a weekend, so you'd expect less of a response from APPIC support... Maybe they had extended hours last year, I can't remember). I wonder what caused all this trouble. Congratulations to everyone who's been able to submit! Those who had problems, please post updates about how things worked out. |

There was a question about this on the listserv in the last couple days. Dr. Williams said that the applications would be sent immediately but not show up as complete (I don't know if he meant to the site or just to the applicant) until the payment was received. They are also working to alter the money order irreversibility (?) now, according to his last email to the listserv.

Feeling very fortunate I was able to get an additional two submitted yesterday with no issues who had due dates of 11/1.
I am hoping the portal is not going to keep having these issues today for folks. But... everyone who was trying to submit yesterday but couldn't + Everyone who didn't try yesterday because they were still finishing cover letters, etc = More people potentially then the website even saw yesterday. Ew. Congrats to everyone who did get applications submitted though!! I have the afternoon off and will be working on more cover letters for apps due later this week... So over cover letters, but still excited that it is only a bunch of cover letters standing between being done submitting! |

I feel so lucky that I submitted mine (-1) last week. With the record destroying snowstorm, the website malfunctions, and everything else that could possibly go wrong, it has been a great feeling to have them DONE and not have to worry. |

Wow, seems like this year's process is getting slammed with snafus, which is surprising given the relative lack of major issues we had last year during the first "fully electronic" cycle.
Best of luck to everyone; hopefully APPIC will get things fixed soon, and then the rest of the way will be smooth sailing. |

Hmmmm......sounds like it could be good news if they don't show up as complete to the applicant, but money order irreversibility sounds bad. That may mean my hope of having them switch to a CC payment for immediate submission is futile. Not that it would matter as they have yet to return my e-mail or open up their phone lines! I bet they are overwhelmed with issues today.
Does anyone who had the money order issue happen to have the address for where to send the money order? I had printer issues on top of everything else and closed the window without the confirmation page displayed. I was hoping to at least get the money order on its way so I could apply tomorrow, in the event that sites are gracious enough to extend their deadlines. APPIC MATCH NEWS --- Due to technical difficulties over the past 48 hours with the AAPI Online service, many students have had difficulty in submitting their applications to internship programs. The AAPI Online technical support team is working very hard on these issues, and we apologize for the difficulties that many of you are experiencing. Following are specific updates for applicants and programs: APPLICANTS: 1. Sites have been asked by APPIC to extend their deadlines until no earlier than 11:59pm on Thursday, November 3. However, it is up to each individual site as to whether or not they abide by this request. 2. At the moment, the difficulties revolve around processing payments for application submission. We encourage applicants to wait until later this afternoon before retrying their submissions. 3. Some applicants chose the "Money Order" option when their credit cards were rejected. For those who have submitted applications using the "Money Order" option, we are working on a solution that will allow you to pay for your submissions via a credit card. Please do NOT send in a Money Order if you don't want to use that payment option. You will soon be contacted about a solution to this problem. (Please note that the "Money Order" option is no longer available). PROGRAMS: 1. For programs that have application deadlines in the next few days, APPIC strongly encourages you to extend your deadlines to no earlier than 11:59pm on Thursday, November 3, in order to accommodate students who have experienced difficulties with the AAPI Online service. 2. You may see some COMPLETED applications appearing under the "Submitted" section. Until this problem is addressed, please treat "submitted" applications as complete. In many instances, the "submitted" status is not due to missing or incomplete information, but instead an artifact of the current difficulties. Please direct all questions and concerns to Dr. Jason Williams at Jason.williams@childrenscolorado.org . Jason Williams, PsyD AAPI Online Coordinator Jason.williams@childrenscolorado.org |

I thought I'd wait until AFTER I submitted my applications to chime in. Sometimes this site can be great for FAQ, but sometimes it's just murder on my peace of mind to read other freakouts.
Glad to have this part over... considering the APPIC directory looking fancier and non-functional last night... that tiny TINY box for editing cover letters... the LOR writers who took their sweet time... meanwhile I'm running dissertation participants non-stop and still trying to spend quality time at home. Looking back on the process so far... it doesn't seem as scary as applying to grad school in the first place. This time around, I've got an amazing advisor, a whole department, and LOR writers who actually know me. Oh, and there was no GRE-type test to make life agonizing this time around, either! Best of luck to all. |

So, there's a good chance APPIC is not going to resolve my issue. So, I called at 9am EST, and the rep told me he was going to call me back. He never did, so I just called, and now another support person told me I have to send an e-mail to customer service to send it onto IT to fix. I don't know why it required ME calling to get this information when I could have done this earlier.
The second support guy told me I have a very small chance of getting that resolved today b/c obviously IT is having a lot of issues to deal with today, and given how late I am sending this request to them, he isn't sure when it'll get done. I am very sick and tired of this process. You would think they would have a safeguard in place for this issue. I don't care that I made the mistake about this one site, but they won't even let me apply to any other sites b/c of this issue. I have about 3 sites due today, so I am very bummed. Of course, I can only hope they will keep their portals open until Thursday, and that my issue is resolved by that date. |
