I am also planning for this Board certification, saw the ACCP published study guides. Does anybody knows whether retail R.Phs are qualified for this exam? I have 4 years experience in retail. It would be nice if members can post their thoughts about their exam preparation, Since this is the 1st yr. of this speciality nobody has any guideline for this exam. I haven't started yet the preparation, planning to buy the ACCP material withing next few days. I know it will be tough for us those who practice full time. any feedback will be really appreciated.

Maybe if a few of us work together we can create a study schedule, share online and other resources we find interesting, and basically just feel a bit of community to help keep us moving forward.
I also wonder about the value of the new certification vs the BCPS. With healthcare reform it seems like primary/ambulatory care is going to present great opportunity for pharmacists so this may become a highly coveted set of initials to add to our credentials. Please keep us posted on how things go with the application process. Robert |

I'll be buying the ambulatory care prep course next week. However, I don't know if I'm qualified to take the exam since I'm a retail pharmacist. HA! It's OK, I learned a lot from the BCPS prep course, so I'm sure I'll learn a lot from this, too. Will let you guys know.

I'm in if anyone's interested. I've found Dr. Najeeb lectures on you tube to be helpful for some physiology stuff.

I should be getting my books in a few days. I can't wait to listen to the lectures, especially the two from my ex-professors.
I think I'll be taking it next year. I want to make sure I'm ready so that I don't spend 600 bucks flunking an exam.

Oh my gravy, the books are thicker than the ones for BCPS!
It'll take me forever to finish reading them. I'm currently reviewing for BCPS. I'm pretty sure I'm not qualified to take that exam, but I'm going to study for it anyway. I'm learning a lot.

I got the ACCP books for the preparation, gone through some of the chapters, want to share some comments about this book. The Biostatistics chapter i didn't find helpful at all. It is one of the most complicated area where pharmacists find difficulty understanding and interpretation. The author just gone through the topics and ask questions to the readers, rather he should answer the questions so we could match our response to the expert. He is interested more in theory than the application of these theory. I am already familiar with the key concepts but my lacking is how to apply those in real case scenarios/studies/clinical trials. In the first chapter page 1-13 he has gone through the decision error he mentioned a clinical data in table 5 and asked readers the questions but didn't gave what would be the most appropriate answers...........anyway after reading all these 2 chapters i would rate myself more confused.........members pls. make your comments on these so that i can rate myself and evaluate my situation.
Second thing all the topics in these vol 1 and 2 is suffice enough for the test? The contents are pretty concise, another thing i am lacking enough practice questions to evaluate me. Members pls. post your responses about these study materials. Another thing, for BCPS exam preparation ACCP has 7/8 books, why this discrepancy? Is board certification in ambulatory care less important/not as prestigious as BCPS? |

The BCPS prep course is 2 books. The PSAP books for re-certification is 11 books. is that what you mean?

Hi. I was wondering if anyone can share what experience(s) did you have prior to qualify sitting for the exam. I am a fourth year pharmacy student who did not match to a residency program. I still want to get into ambulatory care but is worried about the ambulatory care experience required prior to taking the exam. Is anyone taking the exam who just have community experience?
Any info is appreciated. Thanks! |

Sorry to hear you didn't match.
http://www.bpsweb.org/specialties/Am...rePharmacy.cfm This has the eligibility requirements for the BCACP exam. Looks like without residency you have to wait 4 years and you would need to make a concerted effort to do more than what will likely be required in your community job. I am taking it this year, so I cannot give any advice on the exam yet. |

thanks for the reply! on the site, it says that it requires "Completion of four (4) years of practice experience with at least 50% of time spent in ambulatory care pharmacy activities (as defined by the BPS."
However, for someone without a residency, it seems to be a catch 22 as it it would be difficult to even get any amcare experience. Is anyone sitting for the board who only has community practice experience? Thanks! |

I'm not true community. Neither are any of the 4 members of my study group.
I think the wording of the requirements for most of the BPS exams should be changed to be more like BCOP where you have a certain number of total hours of experience in said specialty. 50% of a 60 hour work week and 50% of a 20 hour work week are significantly different! |

Yeah. Would you mind sharing where you and your study groupmates are practicing at? I'm trying to grasp whether or not I'll be qualified to sit for the exam if I remain working retail post graduation. Thanks.

Myself and 2 others work for an outpatient pharmacy at doctor's offices (HIV clincis for all of us), one as an ambulatory care pharmacist at a university, and one works in a medical home model.
