I spelled "Proceedures" on my vet school application and did not catch it until it was already sent.
One night at the clinic, I was given the task of shredding old resumes. The vet had taken the time to circle all of the typos and grammatical errors. . Moral of the story? Sometimes employers look..

I have been having symptoms of retinal detachment since February. Nobody had told me that it was serious. All I was told is that if I start seeing flashing lights, I should go to an eye doctor. I started seeing them in August. They went away. Now they are back. My vision is worse and I have been getting frequent headaches (that Advil cannot kill). I am told that I SHOULD go see a doctor right away. But I have two finals (one Friday afternoon, one on Saturday) and I cannot afford to lose study time trying to get myself seen by a doctor/optometrist/ophthalmologist. I have an appointment scheduled over the break to see a family doctor and my optometrist . All I can do in the meantime is pray that I do not get a nasty headache for my final two exams, and hope that I do not go blind.

Finals suck. .

Also, I still do not know if my Animal Developmental Biology final is cumulative or not. The prof told me it was not. Students are telling me that it is. I guess I will find out at the review session tomorrow.

I just want to say that your vision is more important than a couple of finals! If things get worse postpone your finals and go to the doctor!!!!

Yeah I would say this was an emergency. Usually professors will be understanding. I had a really bad case of mono and they let me complete ALL my exams (I was out two months) at a later date. You can always update vet schools too in case they are are waiting for transcripts. You do NOT want to eff with your eyes, especially in this profession!!!!

I'm not an expert, but see a freaking doctor!

Doing well on your finals is important, but it doesn't mean anything if you can't see your grades when they're posted. Go. Professors understand these sorts of things. They don't understand when your grandma dies four times during the year, but they understand the importance of taking care of yourself.

Go!

Someone in our class had this problem. Ultimately needed surgery and had to do a medical deferment. Don't wait until it gets worse.

I don't post much anymore, I've had a horrific (really hard) semester..

I've gotten rejected from one school (LSU) and about to rejected from 3 more, Ohio, Kansas, Missouri.

I don't know what vet schools want, yes my undergrad was awful, I had some pretty serious health issues. My last 45 is a 3.7, my graduate degree is a 3.88 as of right now (2 more grades) I graduated a semester early, with a boat load of intense science courses..

I did a lot to improve my application, and nothing.. and I know this was the last time I was applying, I just can't afford to sit around anymore.

Ugh.. I'm just procrastinating before my last final tomorrow.

Pity party for 1 please..

Thanks guys. I am going to call the nurses hotline tonight and go from there. I can see! But things are going in and out of focus every time I blink. . I did not think it was anything too serious until I googled my symptoms because someone pointed out that it could be migraines. I know google can be wrong sometimes, but based on my symptoms and what the optometrist said, I believe I know what it is .

My sight is more important and it is now to the point where I am genuinely worried... so doctor it is... and I am going to keep my fingers crossed that it is not anything serious. If I post-pone finals, I may not make it home for Christmas and I may not be prepared to write the GRE in January. Ahh. This is a kind of stress I have never experienced before! .

I am going to hit the books in a few minutes. I hope that those of you with finals are having a very productive evening. My fingers are crossed for those of you who are awaiting invites. Good luck everyone!

What kind of hours/ experienc do you have? CSU is the kind of school that really likes improvement in grades through graduate work. Maybe you could apply there next year if you don't get in anywhere this year. Good luck there is always a chance!! Don't give up til the fat lady sings!

Not as varied as some.
I have 2000 where we saw everything from a gerbil to cows and 200 strictly equine for vet work
500 research hours in 2 labs
and lots of varied experience not under a vet, i've shown horses and worked at a barn for forever, and worked at a farm with small ruminants, and avians and a couple more weird things.

I'm sorry, Raimes. The process is so rough, I know what you mean. Do you know what you might want to do as a Plan B? Who knows, maybe something will come through in the next couple of weeks.

Eh it's ok! It's my 3rd time, I'm used to it. Master's was my Plan B. PhD was my second choice.. but I was so burnt out I didn't want to apply this semester, nor do I know exactly where my interests are, or would anyone really take me with my awful grades. Unfortunately I've seen the same response from grad schools as vet school.

Eeekk.. I should get back, regulation of all things metabolism is calling me.. !

Sure it's healthy, it's got apples in it lol .

I feel the same way NordiCat, can't wait for the waiting to be over! Just one more week though, hopefully and we'll find out. I am kinda settled in to waiting since I've been waiting Since November 12th! Really really really hoping for Ohio State.

CONFIDENCE, SUNNEX! remember, you've gotten one of the early interviews, so that's a good thing to bank on! I know it's hard but it's just like giving a speech (I have that final tomorrow). Think about the interview as a way to communicate your passion for vet med, not a life altering performance that one wrong word will ruin your future. If you imagine yourself succeeding, you will! Eat something!

Back to speech and biochem. I guess I am studying lol.

Relax. Seriously. I felt the most comfortable during my Tufts interview. The little discussion/panel right in the beginning really breaks/eases the tension and got everyone laughing. It was just a really good, calm atmosphere for the most part I thought.

thanks orca2011. everyone who's interviewed at tufts tells me it's very relaxed and conversational/laid back. i'm mostly nervous b/c i haven't done any sort of mock interview with anyone. i've just been thinking of answers to questions in my head (not even writing it down, because i really want to avoid sounding rehearsed). i just wantt o present myself in the best way possible and without freezing up/looking like a fool i'm glad to hear that you had a good experience interviewing at tufts...nerve-wracking because it's my first one though. and tufts is high up on my list too!

I'm frustrated, not for myself (three months before I hear anything...), but in regards to a good friend of mine. She is super intelligent, has lots of experience, and I think she would be an awesome vet - but oh my god this girl just has no organization skills. She's missed two exams in the last semester because of writing the incorrect time/date, and her GPA is pretty much at the point where she's going to end up ineligible to apply to our in-state, most out of states, and she says she doesn't want to go abroad. Just such a frustrating waste to me. :c

Oh, I totally understand that. I did a mock interview, but it wasn't as serious as I thought it would be, so I'm not sure it prepared me as much as I would have liked. I didn't write down answers either for the same reasons, but I did think of answers in my head, and I think it helped. My first one was Penn (Tufts was supposed to be first but I rescheduled cause of the snow storm last year) and I was scared ****less in that one and thought I did horribly, but was later told I did fine. So even if you feel like you did horribly, it's not the end of the world and you probably did better than you realized.

If I recall correctly, the mainly just asked about stuff from my application. The interviewers also tell you a little bit about themselves before they really get into the whole interview process. I was also asked if I had any interest in the combined programs, and if so which ones. Since I was, we talked about those a little bit and what my interests were and how I would feel about graduating a year later if I was accepted to one. I believe I was asked an ethical question but I can't remember what it was for the life of me. It might have been my thoughts on zoo since I interned at one during my senior year, but I'm not 100% sure. But in general, they stuck to my application, asking about my time abroad, if I had an interest in lab animal medicine (I was a lab assistant throughout undergrad), and I think maybe like favorite class or something, which allowed me to talk about my pet Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, Millie and Milford, that I had to take of for my Entomology class.

Hope that helped ease your nerves a little bit! I'll have my fingers crossed for you!

I am re-watching the entire Harry Potter movie series while trying to study enough to pass my Neuro final (and class) tomorrow. Obviously I'm doing a really great job.

Deathly Hallows Part 1, for those curious.

You're going to rock the interview Sunnex! Don't stress it! You should check and see if there are specific questions listed in the interview feedback section for Tufts. Remember, you are one of the lucky few that have already captured their attention. All you have to do is be your lovely self and seal the deal! Good luck!

If scotch isn't good, then I don't know what is. What have you been sipping on lately?

Edit: On topic, my feet are still getting over walking around Columbus, Ohio in dress shoes. Forgot how little support mine had until I woke up yesterday and today. Ouch. LFMF.

When you watch Part 2, can you call me and we can watch it together? I'll make something for you (non-alcoholic to sop up the ethanol running around in your system). Cookies? Or a milkshake? Or I'll just make those for me (Do you still want to go to Tufts this year? Cuz I want you to so we can be yearmates and make SJB jealous as all heck).

.....how old is your bf? Is he one of those anti-HP people? I've only heard of them and haven't seen any of them up close before Drat, I'd Comic Sans this but I'm not sure where the truth comes in and the sarcasm ends

He's 28. Not really anti-HP, just doesn't like to be involved in the hysteria surrounding HP. He's a quiet, fly under the radar kinda dude. He expressed interest in watching with me, however, that may have been just to appease me at the time. I'll turn him around- no worries lol

aaaaaand, I'm an idiot. Don't know what i'm doing trying to alter this quote. fail

You guys are making me want to watch Harry Potter! I'll watch it tonight, as a reward for finishing this semester, one more final and a lab notebook due..

Default I'm neurotic!

So I decided if I don't get in anywhere this year, next year I am only applying to schools with admission decisions before January . I can't TAKE this waiting crap anymore!!!!! I'm driving myself crazy and everyone around me, my eyes are all messed up from staring at SDN and my email all day long (literally everything is blurry lol), and I found a new love for crunchy salty things to ease my anxiety... not good lol
And I don't want anyone to tell me to calm down, or relax because admissions are out of my control, I just want some company in my misery lol.
So back off all you calm, optimistic, early accepted people!!!!
(And congrats for being the person I cannot be)

ME TOOOOO!!!! To everything you just said haha. I check my email a disgusting number of times per day and get really irritated when I get unrelated emails. Preparing for finals this semester has been a horrid, wretched nightmare. So glad they'll be done today at 5! And come Monday, I'll start REALLY panicking if I still haven't gotten application complete emails from my last two schools (I've had unreasonable conversations with my father blaming him for giving me a last name that starts with a W...I'm glad he understands me and doesn't take my insanity personally...)

And it's even more unbearable because a close friend of mine has already gotten 2 interview invites and an acceptance....

hahaha That's hilarious about you blaming your dad! W sucks... at least not all schools do it alphabetically though. My boyfriend's family likes to do mass emails for who's bringing what to Christmas dinner and blah blah blah, and they started sending them yesterday! And each one hits "reply all" and will just write "haha" or something STUPID and its DRIVING ME CRAZY! I finally told them to take me off the damn email list lol.

I've learned that comparing yourself to someone else through stuff like this will only drive you more insane! Vet school admissions are so unpredictable! Don't take it personally (easier said than done I know).

Yes, I know I shouldn't take it personally, especially since they're all from schools I didn't apply to, I'm just jealous that at least he KNOWS he's going to vet school next year. I'm still fine tuning my back up plan haha.

And one of my bosses did the same kind of email thing that your boyfriends family did! He sent an email to all employees with a link to some article about google and college students or something (I didn't care to see what it was) and people keep pressing reply all and then all they have to say is "thanks for the link!" It's been driving my crazy!

I am literally sitting in Starbucks crying, in public, over my purdue rejection. I am supposed to be studying for my neuro final so i don't completely bomb the class.

If anyone wants to bring me a scotch, that'd be cool too.
