Also, if anyone are in any pharmacy organizations, please let me know how it is and how you balance classes and extracurriculars.

Thanks!
Yeah, it's a full warranty. If anything so much as a scratch happens you can get it fixed for free. I would say the majority of students participate in at least one pharmacy organization. There are many to choose from such as NCPA, DAAT (drug abuse awareness team), and Student Alliance (ASHP, APhA). Those are the most common ones at the South Jordan campus. The Henderson campus might have others. It's not very difficult to participate in extracurricular activities. Most of the meetings are during your lunch break as well as some of the activites. Other activites are once a month maybe and it's not hard to work that into your schedule. Each student is different though as far as what they can handle. Some have to study more than others so it's harder to do extracurricular activites.

Thanks
I have heard that the South Jordan campus does not have fraternity chapters. Henderson has chapters of both Kappa Psi and Phi Delta Chi, which are the two major professional pharmacy fraternities. Pledging is not an unbearable commitment unless you just don't take it seriously. As Pong Champ alluded, the student organizations will schedule their meetings either at lunch or after school, and they will try to avoid scheduling events on assessment weeks. Officers are students too, so they will try their best not to add unnecessary stress.

It costs so much because of the extended warranty they get for you. Basically it has a warranty for all 3 years you are in school and the battery has a warranty for 2 years. I think they also add a little to the price for tech support since they always have someone there to help in case you have issues. Tech support won't look at your personal laptop so you are on your own if you have issue with it.
Yeah, I've also seen that most people are using the laptop at Henderson. If you already set aside some money for a new computer, maybe you can get a desktop for home. As for the price, I actually used Dell's web site to do a little comparison between the bare minimum specs of this year's laptop model (which was priced $1384 at the time) and the actual specs that we had. It turns out that there's a lot of extra hardware upgrades (such as a discrete graphics card), software (e.g. Microsoft Office), and accessories (extra battery) that, when summed up, add at least $700 to the price. Of course, most people might deem these bells and whistles unnecessary, but my point is that it's not extremely unfair given the price paid.

The only fraternity that we have at the South Jordan campus is Phi Lambda Sigma. It's a pharmacy leadership fraternity. You have to be a P2 or P3 to be considered for membership and it's by application only. The current members all meet and decide which of the applicants they will invite to join the fraternity.

Dell Inspiron E6420 this year, Dell Inspiron E6410 last year. Not sure what P3s have, but it's probably safe to guess that it changes every 1-2 years.

How long did the whole process last?

I'm interviewing on the 24th in Vegas.
I see that Pong Champ answered your questions. For me personally this is how my day went. 2 pm - 3 pm orientation. 3-3:30 waited for interview. 3:30 had interview. Afterwards went on a campus tour. The student that gave me a tour liked to talk which is great, so my tour lasted until about 4:30 pm. Other students had quick 5 minute tours.

Good luck tomorrow!! Let us know how it goes.

Hi,

I have a question. When should I apply for an intern license in my home state (Besides NV or UT)? in P1 or P2 or P3?

Thanks there!

Are you planning on doing your P3 rotations in your home state? If so, I would just make sure you have it by then. You won't really need until then but it is good for 5 years (at least in Utah it is) so you can get in whenever you need to. I would check with your state board and see if they have any special rules regarding intern licenses.

There is also a February date for the Utah campus so that's 3 interview dates remaining in Utah.

Quite a few of us P1 students have been applying for licenses in our home states so that we can do our summer rotations back home. If that is something that you'd be interested in doing while at Roseman, then apply during your P1 year.

My day was almost exactly the same. They started promptly at 2p with an hour orientation. Because my interview was at 4p, I took a tour of the school prior to my interview. The tour lasted a little over 30 mins. My name was called about 5 mins prior to 4. The student interviewer greeted me and walked me to the room. In the room, the faculty member was waiting for me. The interview was very laid back. It really suprised me - in a good way. I believe they work really hard to make you feel as relaxed as possible. Dr. Oesterman (sp?) actually told me that they understand that we are nervous, and they try their best to make us feel at ease.

I feel the whole process was a lot less stressful than I imagined. That is not to say it wasn't stressful at all. I was plenty nervous. It's a big deal. But everyone was very friendly & I was able to meet several applicants that were very pleasant.

Good luck to everyone.

How long are the average interview responses? 30secs/1 minute? Do they allow you to ask questions at the end of interview?

Well depends on the kind of answer you are giving, if you give them more in-depth answers then you'll probably have less questions but longer response times for each question. My interview lasted about 30 minutes with 10-15 questions if I recall right. They also asked me at the end of the interview if I had any questions for them. Just said 'Nope' and left afterwards.

Response time doesn't really matter as long as you adequately answer the question. Each interview is scheduled for 30 minutes. Some interviews are shorter though. One person we interviewed last week took only 15 minutes and they did very well. It wasn't really necessary to take any longer. Generally we shoot for 20 minutes of us asking questions and 5-10 minutes for you to ask questions. It's not a bad idea to have a question or two prepared to ask at the end even if it's asking the student about their experiences in the program and the everyday life of a pharmacy student. By asking a student actually going through the program you will at least get an honest, non-sugar coated response.

Best of luck to those who will be interviewing next week.

To the current students, do you guys frequently dress up? Ties and suits and all.

I'm not really used to dressing up so formally. lol

The only days you really need to dress up (shirt, tie & lab coat) are the days you do presentations which is only a few times per year or at your IPPE site. Other than that, there is no set dress code. T-shirt and jeans works great or even sweat pants I suppose. When you are sitting in class 6 hours a day + after class studying you want to be as comfortable as possible.

Great to know. And what kind of presentations are you talking about? Is it a group one? Cause I have the most terrible stage frights and my knees and legs begin to shake when it kicks in.

There is two formal group presentations and one individual presentation during your P1 year. You do a few other during your P2 year. There are other times during the year when you get up in front of the class as groups but it's less formal and your aren't all dressed up. Unfortunately presentations are part of the curriculum. You will be doing a lot of presentations during your P3 rotations so during your didactic coursework is a good time to practice up and get used to it.

Just got a call from Dr Deyoung for acceptance! I interviewed in Nov at the Henderson campus. My interview in my opinion was horrible . They didn't really ask me general questions but a lot of situational ones and also asked about my low pcat score. They also asked about my volunteering in a hospital and asked how I knew pharmacy was right for me when I had so little exposure to it. I spoke really fast and stuttered and couldn't pronounce words right. My stats are avg and a little less. Gpa 3.6 and pcat 60's. Nevada resident and will have bachelors this spring. Please keep your heads up guys! I really thought I didn't get in.

Btw I think he said there 20 spots left at the Henderson campus.

Who did you interview with if you don't mind my asking?

If there are only 20 seats left in Henderson that means that 120ish people have already been accepted...i don't think thats very probable

I believe that they're allowed to fill up 50% of the total spots by the time all interviews are complete. I'm not sure if that rule applies to each campus or the total number for both campuses.
