Default predents regarding udm and michigan...

Is it just me or do the stats for UDM seem higher than normal this cycle?

UDM:

Mich:
http://www.predents.com/index.php?page=school

I have read and seen stats of people on some threads which show Umich has been passing by the candidates with high stats. sample size is pretty same on predents

This was written by daved14 in previous post on a different thread a while ago but it seems like UDM is taking a lot of the high stat applicants in Michigan while Umich is not.

Daved14 :

"Just a theory but I think UDM has started to use a selection process similar to the one used in Moneyball. They are giving interviews to those that are most underestimated but are cheap (moneyball reference), in this case UDM is giving interviews to those who applied late but have really high stats. Although these high stat applicants have applied to other schools they probably got their first interview at UDM because UDM is a bit slower than most schools. These high stat applicants may want to go to Penn or U of M etc but these schools have pretty much given out a majority of their interviews. What UDM has done is they have filtered the high stat applicants that applied fairly late and gave them pre-dec interviews. If you check predents you can see that their is a huge difference in the stats for those who interviewed last year compared with those that interviewed this year. In the past couple weeks on predents UDM avg GPA and DAT has shot up, I think the avgGPA/DAT would be higher for UDM on predents if one of the predents had not listed 0/0/0/0 as their DAT score. UDM is a fairly good school, even though it may not have that brand name reputation, it is well established and with its inherent strong clinical exposure, it is likely at the top of the "realistic" list for these late applicants. I can see the class profile going one of either two ways, 1. these high stat late applicants choose UDM as their school as a result UDMs avg GPA/DAT score is abnormally high. 2. These high stat applicants see on predents that their are other high stat applicants getting accepted as a result high stat applicants get nervous of the competition and worrying for their class rank (needed in order to specialize) select a school lower on their list, as a result UDMs avg GPA/DAT falls like a rock.

Anyways that just my theory based on the latest activity/trends involving UDM."

haven't looked at the numbers, but it is safe to assume that only a small minority of candidates are on this website. and usually the people on this site are the upper tier of applicants.

The only thing one can safely assume is that assuming anything based upon the website PreDents is foolish.

Is honest reporting compulsory on PreDents? No.
Are any profiles on PreDents vetted for accuracy? No.
Does PreDents have a reasonable or statistically significant sample size? No.
Is PreDents a reliable source of information? No.
Should you be surprised if listed statistics do not mirror official reports? No.
