hey, i am TOTALLY in favor of keeping one's grass mowed and groomed, but i've noticed an uptick in some HIDEOUS and MORBIDLY OBESE and OLD women (and men!) going for the prepubescent look.... and i just don't get it.

i also get a lot of complaints about issues from shaving - folliculitis to abscesses et al.

i also have an ex who loved "european style"... there's definitely not a consensus!

You've noticed an uptick ? In my neck of the woods, the outstandingly obese are the ones who are in the most frequently with pelvic/GU complaints. I thought this came 'standard'.

well i did just move down a few socioeconomic steps from my last gig to this one... waaayyy less demanding and entitled. i didn't notice as much going bare in residency - urban public hospital, almost 3 yrs ago.

I had one yesterday who asked to be observed for 2 hours. I told her: "Great, we can watch you for two hours and re-check your blood pressure, and then I'm going to send you home. Or I can just send you home now." The patient's husband wisely elected not to waste 2 hours of his life.

I'm a big fan of prescribing anxiolytics to these old ladies with blood pressure.

Totally agree. Mildly elevated -->anxiety that my BP is high--> my anxiety makes my blood pressure go up --> Rinse and repeat the cycle.

Probably even MORE annoying is trying to admit a stable patient who happens to have uncontrolled blood pressure. Even though the admission may be for cholecystitis, the floor won't accept the patient because their BP is 180/95. It doesn't matter that this patient has probably been walking around with this pressure or higher for months or years!

To change the subject, anyone else seeing lots of aggressive/yelling/difficult to redirect/manic patients? We have decided March Madness doesn't just refer to college hoops. Everyone is so keyed up in the crisis area!

The trauma/resuscitation rooms barely have enough room for a stretcher and an US machine.

The CP/obs center is right next to the crisis/psych patient isolation rooms.

And they put the oldest, smallest tech/nurse to watch the psych folks.

Alabama Shakes have been getting some good press from respected sources (All Songs Considered, for example). Definitely an act to keep an eye on.

A committee. One of the first question I asked was whether we would have expanded our nursing staff to meet the increased bed availability.

One of the VP's responded "of course" and suggested that I must not have thought things through.

Well, we've had a staff shortage.

That VP was terminated a couple of years ago.

We're in the process of building a brand new 50-60 bed ER at our main campus. When I asked if we could have a "curtain-free ER" the admins scoffed at me saying it was "too expensive" to build walls, and that they could cram more beds into the ER if they used curtains. It goes without saying that the last three of our ERs that these stupid admins have built are all terrible with awful patient rooms, and non-functional doctor work areas.

I know in some locations there are building codes specifying how big a room has to be if you have 4 walls. By using a curtain in the front you can make smaller rooms and hence fit more in the same space.

Not saying this is a good thing, but I think it's the thought process for some.
I much prefer the sliding glass doors for what it's worth. (which is nothing)

Our hospital is doing this big push about hand washing.

I dig it. But my hands are taking a beating.

I'd like them to swab all the curtains and see what grows. And report it to the state CDC. Yeah, baby!
