Default Just wondering what incoming stats are for podiatry school? specifically ocpm

Hey everyone! This is my first time posting anything on this site. I've been following it for a couple months now because I'm getting ready to apply to schools soon. I became interested in podiatry from my cousin who is a 4th year at ocpm and also the fact that I've always wanted to become involved in sports medicine. I've applied for the internship in july just to be sure it's something I enjoy before applying. I'm going to have between a 3.3 and 3.4 gpa and I'm taking my mcat in june so hopefully I do well. I'm not a good standarized test taker which is why I'm taking the princeton review, anybody know if it helps? And what does the science gpa consist of? Is it just the pre-req classes minus english? And I am currently in research and working at Troy Beaumont Hospital as a patient transporter. I also volunteered there in the post-surgical dept. for over 100 hours. I'm also in a couple of clubs. Thanks guys!

For me as incoming class of 2016 at OCPM, I'm below a 3.0 cumulative and/or science GPA. 30P mcat. Science GPA is kinda whatever you make of it. I know during my app process, I had quite a few questions on what to include as a "other science" course. I'm pretty sure I just threw 1/2 my engineering major courses into science. While the reviews help, I think the best way to prep for your MCAT is to just take a lot of practice exams. From those, you can best know what areas you are weak at. If you're interested at OCPM, let the admissions office know! One way to improve your chances of acceptance to pod school is to constantly be in contact with them (I had solid relationships with 5 schools over 2 years). Good luck on your tests!

Do you think if I score like a 20 on the mcat they would accept me based on my stats and extra curricular activities? I'm just scared that I wont do well on the mcat. I'm planning on applying late august/early sept., is that a good idea because I figure that by applying early a large class like ocpm would accept me. And what do you mean by staying in touch with the school? you mean emailing and/or calling them? Thanks.

MCAT is DESIGNED to tricksy you up. Just knowing the material isn't enough. Examcrackers I hear is the best prep available. I used Kaplan and got DESTROYED on the actual test. Of course, it could be because I managed to get all full 25% organic chemistry on my bio section lol

If you have a great GPA, it balances out the MCAT anyways. For me, I had a really bad first 2 years. Your GPA trend is also very important. Go UP and not down. And let schools know you're interested early. Contact them, give them updates, ask them advice on what courses to take etc... They may not "say" it counts, but believe me, when you're on first name basis with the dean of admissions, it's definitely going to help you.

Based on what I've said what do you think my chances would be? And does attending that internship help a lot, especially since i'll be there and engage in what's going on?

Ummm... Good chance? LOL... I'm not sure what you're really asking. None of us are on the admissions committees of any of the schools. But, people with much worse stats (me) have gotten in, so I don't think you will have a problem getting interviews or acceptances (provided you keep the crazy under control in your interview).

I'm honestly not sure either lol, I guess I'm just worried about getting in but as long as I keep up what I'm doing I should be fine. If you dont mind me asking when did you accepted and what were your stats?

Not to knock ya down, but observation is important. Read 2nd post. I applied to all 9. Got 8 interviews (AZPOD autodecline because GPA < 3.0). Went to 4 of them. Accepted to all 4 w/ scholarships. This was around early March when I got all the acceptances. Applying as soon as the cycle opens only increases your chances of acceptance.

Don't babble on and on during your interview like an idiot. I know I did. I could see them exchanging glances with each other, but I couldn't stop!

Yea I do tend to blab on and on lol but interviewing is one of my strong suits, I'm very good at talking to people and acting mature in an interview so I feel once I get granted an interview I know i'll be golden. But does anyone honestly know what the science gpa consists of? Like is it specifically the pre-reqs or do they add classes like pharmacology or this biology and society class I took?
