Default Inservice scores

Has anyone received their inservice scores yet? Seems like they should have been here by now.

I also have a question for those who are moonlighting. Does your program have a minimum inservice score for moonlighting? Just curious how our place's requirements compare.

Inservice scores are released to programs today (4/25)

My program will be dispersing them after conference on 4/26

My program has a minimum of 80 in order to moonlight (80% or 80th percentile, whichever is lower), and you have to be in good standing

Ugh, I'd rather not see mine. I didn't feel that great after this years inservice.

Got my score back today... I get to moonlight!!!

Now I can live in poverty as opposed to being destitute

Got mine today. Did fine (although I'd hoped to destroy it).

Your program is a bit ridiculous in it's requirements. I doubt most programs would require a score of 80% or better. Even as a third year taking the test, an 80% on the test would put you at about the 50th percentile out of all EM residents. As a second year I think it was like 75th percentile. Why would you need to do better than 75% of all other residents to moonlight when 92% of residents who take the boards are going to pass anyway?

My PD doesn't like moonlighting so he came up with the arbitrary number of 80 to make it difficult. Unfortunately for him, about half of us made the 80 mark.

Could be worse, we could be one of the many programs that doesn't even give the option to moonlight. He just wants to ensure that we have a good foundation in order to moonlight.

I've been told they aren't coming out until mid May.

Our program coordinator has the results sitting in her office. Just waiting for the big boss to review them and allow for distribution.

I kind of agree... When we were a PGY2-4 program, we had a requirement for 70%, 75%, 80% respectfully. Since becoming 1-4, we've pretty much stuck to that. I don't know how that compares to most other residencies out there but as long as our residents are in good standing and making their minimum ITE scores (the median/mean is usually several points higher for each class), they can moonlight starting the end of their PGY2 year (when ITE scores are back..). The vast majority of our residents in 3rd,4th years moonlight regularly with no problems whatsoever. Even with those requirements, all of our residents for the past few years have passed their boards on first try. (To the best of my knowledge...)

Requiring 80% before you can even begin to moonlight is a bit silly, IMO.

Inservice scores came in today at my program.

My studying paid off big time - highest in the program. So happy!

Rivers + Peer 7 + Peer 8 + 1000 Questions = success.

Congrats pinpig, but with all your crazy book reading protocol that you listed earlier with the 10 books a month/1000 questions a day/sacrifice a chicken, etc.. If you didn't score the highest... I was fully prepared to make fun of you...

Congrats, but how do you know that you had the highest score in your program? Does your program line you up by score during conference?

Our program recognized the person with the highest score (I assure you it was never me!) and I would assume and hope that most programs do this.. Even if they dont say the score, they can say Resident A was the highest score.

PS: As a recent qualifying exam taker.. I will say my score went up a few more points on the 'real thing'. I thought the real thing seemed harder and more obscure, but in reality it probably wasnt. Most of my friends went up a few points from their last inservice also...

Long story short, take that inservice seriously and if you did 75+ on it, then you are good shape for the real thing. If you are 85+, you are certain golden..

Thanks man.... it really was the sacrificing chickens that did it. LOL!

The attendings pulled me aside and told me. They also have this paper that shows the range of scores for the program.

Just do Crush for Step 3... then run through the computer simulation before taking the test. As an ER resident, you should be well suited for the Step 3.
