Default Books for PICU Sub-I?

SDN Members don't see this ad. (About Ads)
Hello!
I am getting pumped for my PICU sub-I in June and was wondering - does anyone have any recommendations for books to use?

Thanks!

Read through Jon West's Respiratory Physiology. I think it's available on Google Reader, but the paperback is relatively inexpensive. It's an easy read that will help your understanding of ventilation.

Will you be exposed to cardiac cases as well?

I'm a fan of this book.

Rogers' Handbook of Pediatric Intensive Care
http://www.amazon.com/Rogers-Handboo...5558930&sr=1-1

Everything you see should be covered in here to some degree (at least to the degree you need to know)

Somewhat expensive, but there are cheaper used copies (or older editions)

This is the book to read prior to any ICU experience. Strong review of basic physiology (a must on the ICU) coupled with practical applciations make this book the best out there. While not pediatric specific most of the chapters (review of respiratory physiology, pressors, ventilatory modes) are pertinent in the PICU.

I believe I will have cardiac cases as well. As far as I know, we only one PICU unit that covers all-comers.

Thanks for all your help so far everyone! I have a lighter rotation between now and then, so I think I'll be checking out some of the resources then.
