Default Schools good for Spanish and/or ASL?

Hi everyone!

I am applying to DO and MD schools this cycle and I was wondering if you knew of any schools that provide good opportunities to utilize my Spanish and American Sign Language skills (volunteering in free clinics, Deaf-friendly clinics, etc). I am interested in going into primary care, and service work is very important to me.

I'm in-state for Ohio, and (other than San Francisco) I'll probably stick to applying to schools in the eastern half of the US.

I'd hate to lose my language skills while in med school....I appreciate any suggestions you may have!

I don't have a specific answer for ASL but I think that medical schools that are in close proximity to a school for the deaf might be a good choice. For example, the American School for the Deaf is in West Hartford, CT and University of Connecticut med school is in Farmington, just a few miles away. That generally means that there are faculty (some of whom are deaf) and alumni that have settled in the area. I'm sure there are other pairs of schools that might be a good fit.

With regard to Spanish, there are sizable Spanish speaking populations in so very many parts of the US, both in urban areas and in rural areas (including areas with migrant farms workers and poultry processing and meatpacking houses) that it is hard to list them all.

Any program in NYC (except possibly Cornell) could easily give you plenty of opportunity to practice Spanish, and your abilities would be appreciated.

.
Maybe Gallaudet Uni. in Washington DC? Not sure, but that's the only other large school I could think of. Plus, many major city probably has sizeable populations.

And yeah, there are way too many schools to list here that would love someone that wants to use their Spanish.
