Default Medical School Chances Calculator

SDN Members don't see this ad. (About Ads)
I used the coefficients from the logistical regression model taken from the whole population of applicants from 2009-2011 to make this calculator based on MCAT, GPA, and Race. If you download the Excel sheet, you just type in your GPA, MCAT, and 1 for the race it will calculate your probability of getting in. You can only choose one race or it won't work.

Thanks, I spent a ton of time entering in the individual data. I tried contacting AAMC for more descriptive data like the exact GPA and MCAT each applicant had, but they wanted money or something for that. So I had to assume the averages for each category

Thanks for the calculator. I am sure applicants will find it helpful. For me, it said 72%.

You might be able to sort of play with the idea depending if you want to make the calculators school-specific. Schools list percentages of people with research, etc. Like if the school is 50/50, no real gain having research. If it's 90/10, then some percentage, etc. But it would probably take forever.

Thanks for the calculator. Around a 70 something for me. Add the California Resident variable and it probably goes to 0% for me.

Apumic made something almost identical to what you are suggesting for the final versions of his spreadsheet. Unfortunately all that data is in the MSAR which is unavailable for use given AAMC's legal threats to SDN. The current version of this spreadsheet uses only Tables 24 and 25 which are available more freely with less copyright restrictions than the MSAR

Before you suggest anything, you should really understand the model. The data you are suggesting would not be applicable to this type of model.

No I don't think I have to understand it. Just a suggestion that if it doesn't work, it doesn't. There is no requirement for a suggestion to be good, but it could be. If I really knew how to do these things, I would do it myself.

If we included this in the old med school spreadsheet, I bet it would be awesome!

BTW, you're missing Native American. You should add that in as it is a pretty significant "bonus" (second only to AA)

They don't have Native American by itself on the AAMC grid, only grouped with all other URMs. Otherwise I would do it.

It sucks to be asian as far as admissions go.
Asian have a less chance whites?
sad...

If I was hispanic = 94.18%
african = 96.71%
asian = 74.91%

Seriously, thank you so much for making this! You are an incredible human being!!

I've been so anxious about everything, but now that I know I have a 73% chance of acceptance, a huge part of that worry is gone. You da best!

Hey, if you have no race then you have a 100% chance of getting into med school. Time to go de-race myself!
