Just got 5 more 2 day old kittens and they are SO CUTE! 2 boys - one black and one white and grey and 3 girls - 2 orange/white (I'm not sure why they would both be girls and not boys like oranges usually are, but maybe they're just fooling me) and one little calico with black points on her ears.

Wahooo. Got a new car today!! And by new, I mean a 2004 Toyota Corolla. My parents have been looking for a car to get my sister and I for a while now because we currently share a '99 Mercury Villager (mini van) that has no air conditioning and really crappy gas mileage. It also won't pass inspection and my parents don't feel like investing the money to get it fixed since it's been a lemon since the day we got it. Similar situation with my dad's Volvo from like the 80's. He's going to take the mini van until he can find something to fit his needs. Sooo was not expecting it.

If the queen was a torti (or calico, it's the same underlying colors except with white markings) and the tom was orange, all girls would be either orange or torti and boys would be either orange or black (grey is a dilution that can affect either black or orange and white is a separate thing altogether).

It's not really that orange cats are more likely to be boys, honestly - that depends on the gene frequency in the population. It's more that given particular mating scenarios (primarily ones where either the queen is orange or the tom is not), the males are more likely to be orange than the females are in almost all scenarios (except for the one I detailed above of the torti queen + orange tom, where the males and females have equal chances of being orange).

Huh! Very cool. I think the whole coloration thing is pretty awesome. Good to know!

Started my first class of third year today - a 1 week elective about food animals. Today we did a seedstock operation, an ET facility, random black clydesdales and zebras that the farm uses for advertising, a cow-calf facility, and an delicioussssss steakhouse for an all-expenses paid lunch. 6 hours later, I'm still stuffed. I'm having a much better time than I expected- I was actually kinda dreading this whole trip. Hopefully the rest of the week will continue to be good, although we're staying in some pretty cruddy cheap hotels :-/

Now, just need to pack, since the 2nd part of our trip starts in less than 11 hours...

Vegas is so much fun. Other than some minor room issues we are having a good time. I might be slightly intoxicated right now...

LOL too hot down there. That's why I stick to the northern half of the state. (Besides UNR and UNLV have a bit of a rivalry so I think I'm obligated to dislike it just a little )

Phew! Grades just posted for my last semester, got a B- in biochem! I was super worried about my hideous final tanking my grade-worth 25 % and all essay questions, a killer exam.
But all is well and I'm still going to vet school!!!

Change that to may 21st. You need a bigger break than that!

. You are lasting longer than I can. I really need the break. Quitting on the 21st of June gives me a month. That month will probably be filled with packing and planning my trip to Scotland. I am starting to get excited about this! I am actually looking forward to starting vet school now that things are falling into place.

Yes, yes it will! It's exciting! I am taking almost a week in June to go visit OK and see the school, find a place, find a barn, etc etc etc. Planning to leave at the start of August, pending living arrangements changing for the boyfriend, but as long as I have a few weeks beforehand to pack and spend lots of time with friends, I'll be happy.

So there's this young couple that lives in the apartment complex behind me, and they make me really happy. It's just the two of them, as far as I can tell, and their dog in the first story apartment with the cutest patio in the place an tiki torches and a grill and - really it's just perfect.

Well apparently they're moving out this summer, because I just got my housing assignment for next year, and I'm in their apartment. Where I'll be living with my brand spanking new husband and - eventually - a doggie. Maybe we can continue the trend of adorable couples in an adorable apartment.

I'm on the way to the airport for my flight to Germany. I'm so ready for this break..

I didn't really get the chance to talk to my bf, but today he was a lot more like he was when we first started going out. The guy that I really liked. So I feel a bit better now about leaving.

But don't worry, we are still gonna talk about things when I get back!

Had a quick "going away party" at the hospital I'm working for last night, even though I don't leave for another three weeks, and they gave us all stethoscopes! I was totally shocked and excited. I will be sad to leave even though I have been working 70+ hours a week for no pay. lol

Jealous. My ex bf/ now friend (it's confusing) and I were just talking about going to Bonnaroo where they're playing at as well. Too bad he just had surgery on his foot and is in a cast and can't stand for long periods of time. We had talked about going when we were together but nooo, he had to end things cause he didn't see us getting married, which I think is stupid if I was on the same page...

And I digress...have fun!!!

I don't have a super bad feeling about it (and my gut tends to be pretty accurate), so I'm hoping she'll end up being ok. She's just had so many problems I don't know if this is just a manifestation of a bigger underlying issue.

in 3 days, i will be leaving grenada for 3 months! i cannot wait to live in "dry" air (at least indoors) because i am so sick of everything being slightly damp in my dorm room (72%?). and delicious (real) food, and my babies, and my family and friends, and working, and generally not sitting in a classroom/studying 18 hours a day

Had a (mostly) good day today.

Did my first abdominal cryptorchid this morning - I used a textbook and anatomy to figure out that the testicle was stuck in the inguinal ring. I hadn't observed one of these yet, so it was exciting.

Had a large dog spay without ANY complications.

caught a wolf in a lie

Found out that one of the central support guys was at my hospital yesterday. That email I alluded to before from Dr. B? Apparently they also regard it as "threatening to the team" and it has been sent around.

Really, the bad part to my day was that Dr. B was there at all - she took an extra long lunch (1 hr 15 mins) which set my schedule off and was awkwardly trying to be friendly to me.

Did my first abdominal cryptorchid this morning - I used a textbook and anatomy to figure out that the testicle was stuck in the inguinal ring. I hadn't observed one of these yet, so it was exciting.[QUOTE=dyachei;12505997]

Congrats on your successful surgery!
I have to say I've seen a few crazy surgeries but for some reason watching a cryptorchid neuter is the only one that almost made me faint, I had to leave the room and sit with my head between my legs. I have no idea why either, it's not like I hadn't seen worse things and this surgery was completely tame, lol crazy body .

EDIT: obviously I don't know how to quote people yet, sorry guys!

On another note: took pony, in my picture to the right, to our very first dressage show this morning and he did great! SO proud of him! I went with 3 goals: 1. Stay on. 2. Stay in the ring 3. Get our right canter lead. And we accomplished all three goals! (and even got to come home with a blue ribbon!)

Lies....utter lies.... I never drink (couple times a year and only to celebrate big occasions)

Congrats on your pony in the dressage ring!!! So jealous - someday I will have a horse. I miss riding.

In less than 2 weeks, I'll be marrying my best friend! My mom and I accomplished so much wedding stuff this weekend and then visited the winery where we are getting married. It's going to be freaking gorgeous!
