I'm new to this forum. I quit my dead-end job back in October so that I'd be able to go to school full-time. I just finished a 19 credit semester and am moving ahead quickly. I'm currently 40+ credits in toward getting my B.A. in Psycholog and I'm beginning to look for employment again. My prior experience, unfortunately, is all completely unrelated to this field. I spent many years as an administrative assistant, then was promoted to being the registrar of a small nursing school. I'm curious how to find a job in this new field without any related experience.. yet. Any suggestions? I live in NYC. Thank you ![]() Suzanne |

Not sure if this is comforting or distressing to you, but most people who graduate with a B.A. in Psychology don't even have psych-related jobs.
But a popular entry-level psych job (for those interested in clinical work later on) would be as an ABA therapist working with autistic children.

Like Blizzard said, it is uncommon for someone with a BA to have work experience in psych. One part of that is that usually you need a higher degree in order to do clinical work. But consider something that is non-clinical - working on a crisis hotline, doing some sort of work at a shelter for women or the homeless, or a clerical/administrative position with a substance abuse clinic or some place that offers psych services for those who have limited access to them. Many of these jobs might not be paid but if you can afford to support yourself on student loans they do offer fabulous experience and naturally will help you when you apply to grad school. Plus, you will be helping people who need it the most. And sometimes, particularly for those who have experience in other careers, this can lead to paid positions.
