20 days left until my last day of work and I only work 13 of those 20 days!!! I can start to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It goes by quickly.

Got a job offer from a biotech firm I did a business proposal for as one of my senior projects. They're willing to consider me for a part-time position come fall, if my schedule allows.

My degrees are paying off already!

I didn't really get any presents for my birthday besides from my mom, so I went to the bookstore and bought myself books for my birthday! Three Herriot books, so I can finally read those, too!

Congrats! It's awesome to be in demand

Also, I'm intrigued...would you work part time during vet school if your scheduled allowed? I'm really looking forward to not working- I spent the last 6 years working and going to school. Plus after reading so many threads on here I feel like we wouldn't have time to work.

Congrats hopeful!

So we have an NYC trip planned two weeks from today , and although my brother bought a plane ticket to join us several months ago, he hasn't heard back from his job about whether he could have the time off.
His boss told him today that he would "prefer that he didn't go to NYC".

Yeah? Well we would all prefer that you shove it up your arse and deal with it. My brother asked you about this vacation 4 months ago and 2 weeks before we leave, you "prefer he not go". All that does is make my brother scared about being fired if he does. Say yes or no, don't be flaky. This company treats him like sh*t so at this point...

Why is this a rave?

Brother told him to shove it!

SOOO excited now to have my baby brother along!

It's my parents, the little bro, the BF, and I going.

I've performed in the Macy's Day Parade a few times so I have been there to see NYC at it's finest, but my dad and brother have never been (mom chaperoned with our group in highschool so she's been) so I'm so excited to see them again and show them around.
The BF's best friend is a producer for... well I won't name drop ... and has a place on Wallstreet we are staying for free .
The BF's cousin is a chef at Boulud Sud in NYC and Daniel Boulud said he would send us out the whole menu .
I was so excited for this trip, but now I'm over the moon that little bro is joining!

That's awesome, Em! (:

My rave?

No longer getting that adult poodle this month. No longer getting that poodle puppy in September. Instead?

Getting one of these on the 17th!!!!! So soon! So excited!

(Not an actual picture but just to show the cuteness!)

I am so excited! I was happy about the poodle and happy when I was told that I could have a GSxCollie in September, but getting it arranged that I am getting a purebred GS puppy so soon now just makes sooo sooo sooo happy!

Actual pictures should be coming soon. I'm waiting for the email. Any day now!

Jumping on bandwagon here: Happy birthday! Hope you have a fantastic day!

Mmm. Homemade Snickers candy.

My rave: Heading off to a lobster boil this afternoon with some classmates. Free lobster! And lots of other goodness, including possibly rhubarb crisp.

I was thinking about saving it in case one of the ingredients ends up on our cooking thread BUT... I guess I can lend it to a few friends I am doing this from memory so I may have to come back and adjust a few things tomorrow when I get home and have the recipe in front of me, but I'm pretty sure I remember since I just made it.

You'll need

2 cups milk chocolate morsels (I just buy the 12 or 14 oz package)
1/2 cup butterscotch morsels
1 cup creamy Peanut Butter
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup evaporated milk
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups marshmallow cream (fluff)
1 1/2 cups chopped salted peanuts
14 oz caramels
1/4 cup whipping cream (or heavy cream)

Layer 1:
In a saucepan, mix 1 cup (6 oz.) milk chocolate morsels, 1/4 cup butterscotch morsels, and 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter. Melt on low heat until smooth. Spread the bottom of a 9x13 inch pan and chill until solid.

Layer 2:
In a saucepan combine 1/4 cup butter, 1 cup sugar, and 1/4 evaporated milk. Heat until boiling, and boil for 5 minutes while continually stirring (careful not to burn). After five minutes, add 1 1/2 cup marshmallow fluff, 1 tsp vanilla extract, and 1 1/2 cups chopped, salted peanuts and combine. Spread over Layer 1 and let chill. ***Once you add the peanuts, this gets hard rather quickly, so make sure you are ready to spread this layer right away***

Layer 3:
In saucepan, combine14 oz caramels and 1/4 cream over low heat until smooth. Spread over layer 2.

Layer 4:
Same as Layer 1

Chill until set and cut into 1 inch squares and then..... enjoy!!!

I will let you know if I had to change anything, but I'm pretty positive that's right.

Leaving in ~12 hours for well-deserved vacation to celebrate my 15th anniversary (it was actually about 2 weeks ago) in Costa Rica.

Hope the forum can survive without me for a week and a half!

Went to the beach today and it was lovely (even though I got sunburned despite sunscreen. Curse my super fair skin!)

Bahahahaha! Jam!!! (Love that joke) Thanks guys!! I lover her so much. And she's a really nice dog too (I know!! A dachshund!!!) She's a therapy dog. Took her to the children's wing of the hospital about a month ago. We're heading to a home for Alzheimer's and dementia patients here soon.

Has a life jacket because she's not (surprise surprise) a strong swimmer

Had an awesome weekend with the boyfriend .

I took him to my staff party and fit in really well. I briefly thought back to the guys I have dated in the past and how they would likely be reserved and shy when put in that situation. It made me feel really happy and really lucky to have found this guy.

The lab I work for is responsible for doing DNA extractions and phenotyping on apples. There is a computational aspect to it as well. We have a programmer who is responsible for writing programs for the mass amounts of sequences we are expecting to receive, being in charge of the server, etc. My boyfriend is a server administrator with a company in the states. He works from home. Anyway, my boss actually invited him to come do his work in the lab whenever he wants, as long as he is willing to help out a little bit if someone is having trouble. The fact that my boss gave him that opportunity is AMAZING and the boyfriend is happy that my boss offered that to him.

Perhaps it means I may get to see my boyfriend a little more. He lives 2 hours away, so I only get to see him on weekends.

Anyway, I had an amazing time. There was lots of local wine, The Noodle Guy made us dinner, and the boyfriend got some amazing pictures with his new dslr.

Watching national geographic and a show comes on about alligators. Anytime I see alligators or dinosaurs I think of my comparative vertebrate anatomy professor who is world renowned for his research. As I'm thinking about him, he appears on my tv a minute later. I find it really cool to have had the privilege to be taught by someone so respected in his field. This is the 7th different show I've seen him on and for some reason I get giddy and swell with pride every time

My MS advisor is on a lot of shows about cats (Nat Geo even documented a trip to Egypt the lab took to get DNA from cats there for a study on domestication), and the last time I unexpectedly heard her on TV (wasn't really watching, just heard her voice) I was all HOLY HELL I'M LOSING MY MIND I'M HEARING HER VOICE AT HOME NOW TOO and I panicked a bit.

true story.

Haha that's awesome. I just think its really cool and I get all stupid dorky about it. I even woke up my BF to tell him. Sorry, BF. Things like that make me feel like my education was worth the money lol. (Hey, I need some kind of validation... This will do for now).

I'm such a weird mix of emotion right now.

They officially offered me the job before anyone else and are willing to look over the contract points I was concerned about. Namely:
  • 5 days per year of PTO
  • 7 mile 3 year non-compete
  • low salary for it being a brand new clinic
I finally gathered the courage to email the other vet I've been interviewing with and let him know I have an active offer on the table. I also told the vet who's practice I was looking into that I can't do it for my husband's sake.

I feel accomplished but really nervous about tomorrow.

They officially offered me the job before anyone else and are willing to look over the contract points I was concerned about. Namely:

Congratulations! It sounds like life is getting better for you, and not because you got lucky, but because you worked for it. Again, congratulations dyachei. I hope you end up with two really amazing offers.

Isn't it strange when baby siblings get big all of the sudden? I remember holding my baby sister the day she was born. Now she is graduating from high school (this Thursday-aaak!) and I'm so proud of her. She is the class salutatorian an earned a full ride scholarship to Santa Clara Uni. Turned down John Hopkins to be near our dad. Brains and a heart of gold.
