Default Organic Chem Withdraw?

SDN Members don't see this ad. (About Ads)
So i enrolled in a 7 week Organic Chem spring course and unfortunately its a bit tough for me since I last took Gen chem 2 years back.

Questions: Withdraw from Organic Chem, the highest marks at this current moment I can possibly get are somewhere in the B- to A- range.

I would have to get almost perfect on the final to even consider the A- range. It will count as a withdrawl. My GPA isnt stellar but since Orgo is a pre-req I dont want to already discertain my chances as low as they might be. My final is on the 21st and my base for orgo is pretty weak. I failed the 1st midterm. So...

Suggestions? Withdraw or just put in 8-10hr days for the next week until my final.

Put in the time to improve. 8-10 hours a day might lead to burn out. Shoot for 4-6 with a 30 minute break each hour. Don't withdraw. A W is worse than one B- (it could obscure an F), especially in organic chemistry.

Don't make excuses and quit, just work hard and do better.

I've not taken gen Chem 2. I'm in orgo now and sitting a a B but I "think" I figured a method to best study for ME now. There are lots of us taking the class now. We could do a fb page or start a thread here

I think that would be a fantastic idea. If you want to go ahead and create one and if you dont mind sharing your method with me either here or through a PM [ whichever one you prefer] it would be highly appreciated.

Withdrawing a definite B/slightly possible A is just silly. Especially since you never know how the professor may end up curving grades at the end (I know a lot of people who were SURE they were getting Bs, maybe even possibly Cs in Orgo last year that ended up with As).

Yea I have decided to stick it out and just suck it up. Its my fault that I came into this predicament by wasting precious time that in my current situation I cannot afford. Im just going to man up and study my butt off and finish with a strong grade. I need a 98 on the final to get an A- while some kid needs just a 70. I actually felt a little fire burn in my chest when i heard this in my tutorial. I have no clue why but it felt good. I have my midterm tomorrow and I'm 1/3 done. Going to study for the next 10 hours ,get a good night sleep, and kill it tomorrow.

Ive found that confidence and hardworking is what is going to help me preservere and succeed in life, not giving up and quitting the second i face a wall. Time to give up video games, porn, manga, tv shows, and the likes until I get a 4.0.

Thank you so much guys. Wish me good luck for the final.

One of my friend's failed her first test in Gen Chem. Withdrew (got the big fat W) and switched classes, ended up getting an A- in that and an A in the Gen Chem II. Then went on to being a Chemistry Major...
go figure. She is applying this year.
