I did. Undergrad GPA of 2.9...did some post-bacc coursework, but no grade replacement. 3.9 in my pre-req's during post-bacc, 30 on MCAT.

just took step 1 of COMLEX two days ago.

Thank you so much for sharing your story...
I am very concerned about my situation right now.

I retook 6 classes already, and they are all sciences. English is not my first language. I got B for OChem II (after retaking 2 times bc of family issue).

I got C+s for both Bios I and II (after retaking them).
I got C for Bios III.

I got B, B, and B+ for physics
I got B+, A- and B- for general chem.

Below a 3.0, or below a 3.5? Which is it? Getting in with <3.5 isn't that uncommon.

Those are your retake grades? You're in some trouble, my friend.

What's your Gpa? This should be in the what's my chances thread, but that's ok.

Just to share, I had a <3.0 sGPA and a 30R MCAT and didn't even get wait listed anywhere. I know you are wanting more positive stories, but I wished I knew how hopeless it is to get in with those stats if not an URM.

It took two years for me, but I am finally over 3.2 GPA and hopefully can finally start my medical education.

If you are under 3.0, feel free to apply of you have the money.

Also, one last comment...I'm not sure what Bios classes are, but if they are regular biology classes and you can only get C's on retake, how do you think you'll do with 19-20 credit hours of all science, including gross anatomy and biochem? Really be honest if this is for you.

If it is, go for it and good luck!! Don't lose hope whatever you choose

Did you apply for DO or MD school?

I know it's kind of hopeless for me. But I still want to be a doctor. I will do everything to achieve my goal.

Thank you for sharing your story though

Both, but mostly DO.

Its not hopeless, but I just want to help you see what it means when you say that you will do everything to achieve your goal. A lot of people say that, not saying that you won't, just saying that knowing what to do and then doing it is all that matters.

I personally think that you need to be in a place where you can retake a bunch of classes and get all A's (maybe some B's). Seeing your history, I would be scared to tell you to take an SMP because if you get <3.2 in an SMP (and for sure <3.0) you may have killed your shot for the next decade when you could get an academic fresh start.

Anyone can correct me if Im wrong here, but you need to be able to handle those classes. My bad GPA was corrected by over 35 hours of 4.0 and I am still nervous.

Again, good luck to you! Don't lose hope, but give yourself a BIG reality check...maybe speak with an academic or premed counselor at your school or a local school.

What you mean by SMP?

Thank you for your suggestion... May I ask you something? Did you do lots of volunteers, researches and shadowing doctors?
Did you get doctor/professor recommendation letters?

Thanks

SMP= Special Masters Program. Do a google search on it for the different schools that offer these programs.

And yes, I had good enough ECs and LORs, my GPA just did me in.

I had a 2.8 sGPA and a 3.0 cGPA, paired with a 30M MCAT.

I applied late (was out of the country volunteering till Sept) took my MCAT on Sept 11th and waited to see what my score was before deciding to apply.

So I applied in October, secondaries in November-December. Lots of pre-interview waitlists and rejections. Two interview invites, one of which was my top choice, the other of which was in my top 5.

I got in to my top choice, and couldn't be happier.

My GPA in med school is much higher than my undergrad GPA ever was. I even do some tutoring here and there. It's amazing what studying something that you're 100% interested in will do for you.

Best of luck, it's an uphill battle, but you never know what will happen.

There are a lot of underdogs on this board. I had a 2.6 for several years of undergrad coupled with something like 14 Ws. Rebounded with a 3.6 from UW while working full time and a 36 mcat. It can be done, it just takes time and effort. Have done pretty durn well in medical school.

3.14 cGPA, 2.96 sGPA, 33Q MCAT. A few grade replacements, no post-bac. Got into #2 school, matriculating in T-minus 1.5 months

Applied earlyish (end of june) and interviewed Sept-Oct and received acceptance on my interview date (imagine driving home in the afternoon after interview, pull over at gas station for a snack, check online status and accepted).

Original GPA=2.8
PB (informal 80cr) cGPA 3.83, sGPA 3.91
GPA after PB (with DO grade replacement) 3.2 for both
26Q (10bs, 9vr, 7ps)

5 interviews (skipped one), 2 waitlists (#2 & #3 choice), 2 acceptances, 1 was my top choice, the other my last choice... one of my waitlists is at SLC's school But that's okay because I ended up getting into my top choice... So, anyway, you need to put the work in, and if that means getting a tutor who speaks your native language and can help you, do it... all I can say is get As... and lots of them!

Thank you for sharing and also your suggestion.
Unfortunately, there is no tutor who speak my native language in my college.

But I will study harder and harder. Thank you

Just fyi you will likely have to explain why you got a B- in a retake.

retake grades are a little bland. depending on how far along you are in school, you might be able to help yourself out by doing exceptionally well in upper level sciences but that seems doubtful due to your trouble with english. the low grades in the general sciences do not bode well for the classes that follow them. if you had trouble with one or two of them, then i wouldn't have generalized like that, but you had trouble with all of them. dont do an SMP cause you will absolutely screw yourself if you bomb it. you'll need super EC's and MCAT to boost yourself. MD is an almost zero chance. DO is possible if you improve the gpa and do well on the mcat and do your homework before applying. good luck

I have basically same stats with slightly higher GPA after retakes. I hope it works out for me this cycle like it did for you! That is pretty crazy you got same day acceptance.

3.23c, 3.37s, 30T MCAT

Replaced my Physics I grade, nothing else.

Lots of ECs from working in EMS for several years and a couple thousand hours of volunteering.

Accepted to LECOM-B, Nova, AZCOM, RVUCOM, and TCOM. Invited to interview at LECOM-E but declined.

Starting at TCOM next month.
