Default NY State dental License

SDN Members don't see this ad. (About Ads)
I heard it's a long drawn process to obtain a dental license in NY following a residency program mainly due to paperwork etc. Could anyone throw some light on the NY state dental license application process and time-frame to obtain license following successfully completing a dental residency program. I have checked NYS dental board licensing requirement etc but interested about someone's input based on personal experience. Thanks,

Default Relatively straightforward process!

hey there-
From the time you complete your residency (July 1st I'm assuming), it will take approximately 5 weeks to obtain your state license. You can't send in your application until your program director verifies program completion. I applied for a general anesthesia license as well, and received that a week after my dental license. So, I was ready to start work around mid August after I finished residency. You'll need to confirm Child Abuse Education as well (which was likely completed during your dental school training) and you can contact your Dental School Registrar to obtain verification of completion. The infectious disease coursework needs to be completed WITHIN 90 days after you've obtained your dental license. It's really not too painful of a process... You can start the process of NBDE score verification and transcript requests a few weeks prior to sending in the Main application. Any other questions, just PM me.

I am finishing my residency July 1st and am really hoping to begin work the first week of august. My dental school and NERB already sent everything necessary to the licensing board.

Any other suggestions on how to get my NY license as fast as possible? How long did it take you recent applicants?

I had everything sent in weeks before graduating from my general dentistry residency. The day after graduation, I sent the official paperwork from my general dentistry residency. Two weeks later I had my NY dental license in hand.

I also received a dental license after finishing a residency. Didn't take long at all. I finished on July 1, but I started gathering information in advance that was requested for the application. I also took the Child Abuse course and OSHA course online ahead of time. I can't remember the exact number of weeks, but if you have everything needed for processing, it's really not a long wait. Depending on your residency, the directors will sometimes go ahead and fill out your residency form in advance because they know you'll complete the program for example two weeks before July 1 even gets there. I do remember that the dental school I attended took forever and a day to send the NY Dental Board my certification for graduation and that was the last item needed. "Drove me crazy." By the time the secretary sent it to NY, my license was at my front door in special Fed Ex envelope. You'll be fine. Just gather the necessary items, send them in and you'll have it. Best wishes. It's a great feeling when you receive it.

Finished my GPR last Friday and had all my paperwork to the board by Monday. Let's see how long this is going to take! Anyone get an idea from Albany yet how long the current wait is?

should take till early august but i dont think you need to send in any paperwork regarding child abuse and infection control those competencies are usually completed by every accredited dental school / gpr so you should get it in early august. if you really itching to find the progress call this Phone #: (518) 474-3817 Ext. 270 and they will tell you what your missing and how long it should take.
