I was wondering if anyone could provide some insight on the OT job market for new grads. I have heard SNFs have the most jobs available for OTs right now...is this true? Which settings will hire new grads and which settings will pay new grads the most? Are there usually sign-on bonuses and student loan assistance for OT jobs? What is an average starting salary like for a new grad and how quickly is your salary likely to increase? I am in the Western NY area, so if anyone could give information specific to here, that'd also be great! Info pleaseeee...I have been asking this all over with no answers.

Check out the AOTA website and your state OT association. Also Bureau of labor statistics. Otherwise google it.

All of the settings will hire OT's just have to get out there and go for them. I have seen people get hired at all the settings as new grads it's up to you really don't limit yourself. Salary usual range 50-73K. My aunt is at an SNF makes 73K as a OT she mostly does the basic ADL skills bathing, toileting, dressing, getting in and out of bed or a chair, hygiene, and eating skills.

The OTs I have been talking to say that they are in high demand (michigan). There were 4 OT and 2 COTAs working in a nursing home facility with about 100 patients. 2 of them graduated 20+ yrs ago and they told me that they make 70k+ w/ benefits.

As for pay increases (say every 5 years) you have to quit and get work to get more money.

If you get experience (or maybe not), you can also do home care visits. A lot of companies avg out to $80 a visit. It stresses the HR dept at a lot of home care agencies because they don't have a OT to contract with or have one on their Professional Adv. committees.
