Default Step 1 Scores based on the higher the score the better or target point?

i just was curious if anyone knew if residency committees judge an applicant's step 1 based on whether they hit a certain target score or they want the highest possible score possible. i scored a 245 on step 1 but thought i earned at least a 250+ after walking out of the test so i'm a bit disappointed. i know 245 is a solid score but it seems like students nowadays need a 250+ to be considered a competitive student for all fields.

The national average is a 222. What makes you think a 245 is too low to be competitive? If it's because of the scores people post on SDN, don't ever go by what you read on an anonymous forum. Go by the residency stats that are published every year.

they probably look at ranges, youre in the 240s, better than someone in the 230s but not as good as someone in the 250sits all a range, either way 245 is higher than the average score for derm
