Default school list help

SDN Members don't see this ad. (About Ads)
Hi! So I'm just finishing up my list of schools, since my AMCAS just got verified. Here are my stats:
Overall 35O
PS 11
VR 13
BS 11

3.47 GPA at a school known for tough grading

MA residency

LOTS of experience working in a doctor's office (6 years), a fair amount of medical volunteering (more than 150 hours, I think), a good amount of non-medical shadowing, a full month of shadowing plus shadowing at work, pursuing EMT certification.

My current list of schools:
BU (already sent AMCAS)
Tufts (ditto)
UMass (ditto)
Albany (really good connections through work)
Meharry
Morehouse
Tulane
Virginia Tech
Eastern Virginia
Wright State
Commonwealth
Hopkins
Mayo
Baylor
Case Western
NYU
Drexel
MC Wisconsin
Georgetown
SUNY Downstate
Rosalind Franklinm
UMD
Albert Einstein
George Washington
Rochester

Anything people would add/take off? Thanks for your help!

Do you have the years of dedicated nonmedical service to the poor that Georgetown, Meharry, and Morehouse will want to see? Do you have significant research involvement that the research-oriented schools on your list would find attractive, ie NYU, Case, Baylor, VTech, Mayo, Hopkins? What about leadership, which the "top schools" particularly find interesting? Can you convincingly make a case for aspiring to serve rural NE Pennsylvania patients that Commonwealth wants to see? Hopefully, you are picking schools based on your fit to their stated mission.

Sorry, I was really tired when I wrote that and I forgot some stuff. :P I've been on two missions trips to South America and one to South Africa to work in schools and teach English, as well as volunteering for Habitat, at a camp for innercity kids in NJ, and at a church camp in Vermont, and teaching a mini-class on peace in elementary schools, .

I've participated in bench research at the Brigham in Boston and at McGill in Montreal, as well as a semester as a psych research assistant.

My leadership experiences are mostly within volunteering. For the English classes in Paraguay, we were expected to create and implement our curriculums. Same for the Junior Peacekeepers curriculum. I did a little bit of tutoring in college as well.

Any other advice would be helpful! Thanks again.

Maybe you could add in some timeframes, ie total months and/or hours of involvement for each activity. Was the bench research related? Did you have your own project, publish, or do presentations/posters of your work?

I think it really comes down to your ECs and your story. If you listed all the ECs you have, then I would take out half your reaches(Baylor/Hopkins/Mayo) and add more schools that fit a 30/3.5 profile . If you happened to have a great story and other leadership experiences, then I would just add to your list more mid tier schools.

Edit: just read your reply. i would add more 3-4 more mid tiers that you might like just based on location.
