It's really awesome, too, because part of the class is volunteering at a clinic that serves mainly Spanish-speaking people.
You would think that living in New Mexico we would have that course. Nope.

If I get accepted this year I will find something this summer, somewhere.

Just trying to help, but you do know that most medical colleges frown upon AP credit-waived courses? So, considering that you're going into orgo already, that means you've waived gen. chem 1&2, correct?

Wouldn't it be fine if the person ended up taking inorganic I+II anyways since those courses can replace the pre-req gen chem I/II

This. Most schools seem to be OK with taking higher level substitutes.

That's only assuming they'll be taking inorganic 1&2. Just thought I'd shed some light to him/her if they weren't aware!

Hello! I'm a she, just for reference.

I'm a biochemistry major, and as a requirement for the major, I need to take Quantitative Analysis, Physical Chemistry, and Biochemistry as well. Because of my AP credit, I have the space to place Inorganic Chemistry in it if I have to, albeit it's only a semester at my institution.

Those will probably be enough, right?

Advanced Inorganic Chemistry
Human Anatomy w/ Lab
Environmental Chemistry/Genetics/Immunology w/ Lab (depends on which class I get into )
19th/20th Century Thought
Leadership Seminar for RAs

We don't do the credit hour system in my school, but I think all these add up to 22 credit hours.

So, why are so many of you taking more credits than the typical full time student? What's the rush?

Typically, first year students tend to underestimate the rigor of courses, so they overload themselves, thinking that more courses look better.

For me, I know my high school has prepared me well, so it's not rigor that I'm concerned with. I'm just taking more than I need, for the flexibility of dropping classes later. If I don't like a class, I can drop it and still remain full time, rather than find another one to sign up for, at a possibly inconvenient time.

I'm guessing that's also directed at me.... and not just the college kids.

The handbook I was originally sent by my department had the one year schedule as a sort of "standard," and then mentioned if an extra semester was needed you could take it. By the time I wanted to sit down and work out my schedule with my advisor and they told me most people do go the year and a half, I was already set on getting it done in a year because I wanted to go ahead and apply to medical school this year. It has been done in a year before so we'll see how things go. Otherwise, I'll be looking forward to maybe taking a couple of more classes in the fall and spring of next year and getting a lab job.

Fall 2012 schedule

Cell bio (3)
Physics 1 (4)
Communications class (3, who the hell knows why my school requires 2 comm classes for bio majors)
Stats (3)

Only could get in to 13 credits thanks to being a transfer student. I wanted to take organic chem, but the class was already full by the time I registered. *sigh* have to wait another summer before taking the MCAT. Was hoping to do it this summer, but now I'll have to wait till the summer I'm applying. God knows that will be fun!

Well played. Resident schedule >> premed schedule, but I'm still in premed. Hopefully, I'll enjoy some interesting action in the future.

Also, what's up with most premeds taking (or minoring) psychology/sociology? Required for schools?

Intro classes are a joke, and we need to challenge ourselves because we're masochists.
