Is There Any Pharmacist Who Likes Their Job????
Started by missSunshine
It seems like so many people say not to go into this field and I just wanted to see if there is anyone out there that actually like what they do and are happy doing it?
The ones who are happy don't come cry on this forum. Also....people rarely say I LOVE MY JOB if they like it or are ok with it...just human nature to complain...

Sure, I like my job.
I like my job. I would rate it between 7-8/10. I dislike some of my co-workers but the actual "work" of my job I enjoy.
I am an inpatient pharmacist working 7 on/7 off nights with a couple clinical tasks thrown in as well.

Well its good to hear some positive feedback! 🙂
Love my hospital job and my independent retail job.
I am currently working retail and am pretty happy with my job. I guess I would give it about an 8 out of 10. I enjoy most aspects of my job, and I don't dread going to work. The best job I ever had was at a hospital, the worst job I ever had was at a hospital. Retail and hospital are different, but I've found the job requirements of both enjoyable. Even within just retail or just hospital, there can be big differences between jobs-if someone is really unhappy with their job, they should explore other alternatives. What is a perfect job to some people may be an unbearable job to another person, and vice versa. People spend a big portion of their lives at work, so its important to find a job that one can be happy with. Also, people need to have realistic expectations about work as well, if work were that super-great, people wouldn't have to be paid to do it.

I enjoy going to my job🙂 Inpatient pharmacist.
A hospital pharmacist who loves his job here as well
Now, that's rare! Glad to see that it is possible. Most of the hospital pharmacists I met so far are unhappy perfectionists who tend to make their techs lives miserable and can't stop whining about nurses or doctors.A hospital pharmacist who loves his job here as well
Well I wasn't going to start a thread to say it because I didn't want to be seen as overtly bragging, especially in the face of all the people with suicidal tendencies lately 😱, but since you asked, yeah I love my job.
I think another reason people might be unhappy is because they go in with grandiose expectations. Like all their professors in school taught them that everyone will be a hot shot clinical pharmacist, people will address us 'Doctor' out of respect, and all the physicians and nurse practitioners will swoon at our expert drug knowledge... 🙄

I love my job
Cause you and everyone there makes 117/hour.
it sucks everywhere. ive worked retail with the public throwing things, cussing, etc. i give them some slack because they are the public and they don't understand how a pharmacy operates. now in the inpatient setting, you have "highly trained" "healthcare professionals" that are just as bad, if not worse. starting to think working in a mailorder pharmacy might be best.
Talk to pharmacists who do not work retail. Retail is the arm pit of hell no one likes it.
I love my job. I have one of the best jobs in the pharmacy world.

Is your company hiring? How competitive it is?
I do not want to jinx it bit I will still say
I like my job till now .I do not know if I will feel the same way after sometime.
I won't use the word love right now as this job is new so it will be premature to say that.
Although it is not perfect and has its own problems like old employees given favors at the expense of new employees etc kind of stuff common in other jobs as well
Retail is hell and I agree 100 percent with mountain when it comes to retail.

Add me to the roster. Of course there are good days and bad, but mostly the good ones.

What do you do in pharmacy?

I like my job, in retail no less, but I'd still advise against going into pharmacy just because it's oversaturated and it's only going to get worse. Taking out huge non-dischargeable student loans like students today do is too risky when you can't necessarily count on getting the big bucks in the end.
Me me me!
I'm inpatient staff and I like my job. I would give it 7/10. Some days can be stressful, but I don't dread going to work like I have at some of my other jobs.
Plus the people that you work with can make you or break you. I love my crew, which makes working so much more enjoyable.

I love my job, except for audits...(mountain) 🙂
Come on man!!!! I do not have anything to do with your crazy audits...well I did drop your name to the audit and compliance division but I sure that has nothing to do with it!
I am to blame if your prior auth gets denied for brand Lipitor because you claim you took the generic and it caused your eye balls to pop out, massive diarrhea, skin rash, brain aneurysm and memory loss yet you do not have a claim in the system for the generic.

Competative? There is probably 20 pharmacists nationwide that do what I do. That is assuming the other PBM's have a similar set up. You want in at a PBM you need to do a residency.
Me me me!
You still work in pharmacy? I thought you were some international fasion model/photographer now. What do they give you 20 weeks of vacation a year?!?!?!

Wow! You know I had plans to do what you are doing after pharmacy school. Travel around see the world and then my wife tricked me and got pregnant. End of story.
Best time of the year to go to Colorado! I am jealous. I am hoping to get back next year for a week or so in the summer. I have said that for the last two years so maybe it will happen next year.
QFT! The Pharmacists who enjoy their job are too busy living their lives instead of coming to a forum to bitch and complain about it.The ones who are happy don't come cry on this forum. Also....people rarely say I LOVE MY JOB if they like it or are ok with it...just human nature to complain...
Probably a bit more than that. There are at least 3 at my rotation right now, and this is just one of the facilities. I have to say, you were not joking about the stupid stuff that is written on PA forms.Competative? There is probably 20 pharmacists nationwide that do what I do. I do enjoy this, although I haven't had much time doing it since I have quite a few projects and tons of meetings to go to. Who would've thought that following the P&P is easier than writing it.
I love my job. Both of them. I have loved all my pharmacy-related jobs (and all but one of my non-pharmacy related jobs).
Even more, I have never had a bad boss. 🙂
I guess it doesn't take much to make me happy. 😀

I like my job until a customer comes by and pisses on my great day. When that happens, I enjoy the opportunities my job provides: the ability to buy things and vacation as I please.

Do you work for a pharma company and if so what do you do for them? whats the best way to go that route if you want to get in the industry?

I see forms filled out like that all the time.

Mornin! Gahhh it was cold...but I forced myself to get up early for the sunrise! Wish it hadn't have been so windy or I could have gotten a better reflection of the Aspens in the water...

She tricked you? Right.......You know it's been a while since I studied biology, but you had to have something to do with that event....

Maybe she poked a hole in the condoms or stop taking her BC?

Inpatient here as well. I like my job.
Inpatient and I love my job. Really! I love the work that I do, my coworkers in and out of the department are great, my hours are fantastic, salary/benefits are top notch. Love it.
This thread is so inspiring to read as a student! Keep them coming 🙂

I thought you were Mr. Red Button. What are you doing now then?I am not a PA pharmacist!

Notice there is a trend towards non-retail. Interning a while in retail and you quickly realize the idiotic, entitled patients and pain interest butt insurance company will make work a constant test of your fortitude. Take those away and even I wouldn't mind working retail.
