Well I think I am going to start documenting my path through schooling all the way into Medical School. Hope that is can help someone going through the same things I am going through. Here we go
I am 35 two kids 8 and 2 years old and just started on this " non traditional" path to becoming an MD with no prior college what so ever. I started my freshman year this fall on Sept 09. Since I have been out of school since 1992 besides IT courses I have taken which don’t count I have pretty much forgotten all there is in regards to writing and math. When I applied to my local community college I was given a placement test in which I did horrible in. Because of this I have to take some beginner class of which I said ok no problem dont have much of a choice. Well this semester I am taking my intro math course which is 3 credits but don’t count towards my major and a mandatory "college survival course" which is 1 credit and everyone must take or they won’t graduate. I am also taking Speech writing which is 3 credits part of my curriculum. Now so far I am doing pretty good in the math classes I have gotten 90-95 on all my exams the 1 credit class is just a pass/fail and that class I am passing and my speech class I have received all A's in all my speeches so far. I just registered for my next semester course thinking that I can start to take Precal since it’s in my Major and College Comp I and then the intro to computers which is another mandatory course in my CC. Well here is when it got good and I am soooo frustrated. Because I did not do so good on my entrance exam I cannot take my College Comp I until I take basic reading and writting...WTF both of which are 3 credits each and don’t count towards my major also when I pass my basic Math course I have to take Algebra another course which is not in my curriculum :-( so this semester I’m taking 12 credits of which 3 will count towards my major. This just puts a damper on my plan of study and will just take me longer to finish. Not happy at all. No matter what I do I have to take these crappy classes. The good news is that I am at level III in the reading and writing class so in those once I pass them next semester I can then go to my college courses. It will just have to be either the summer semester or next fall :-(.... Here is my first rant and thanks to all for listening in advance. |

Sounds frustrating! Ugh. Particularly since you are doing so well in your classes, and you can clearly write a reasonable paragraph. I wonder if you can challenge the classes you need to take (prob for a fee).
Still, you sound like you know this is a marathon not a sprint. So keep your chin up, keep getting A's, enjoy your life as it goes on and you will continue on your path.

Might they let you re-take the placement exam? Now that you're back in the swing of things, you might do well enough to get out of the algebra course...
