Default University of Puerto Rico!!! Ay Caramba!

SDN Members don't see this ad.
So I was wondering....

Is it true that you need to understand and speak Spanish in order to succeed in University of Puerto Rico dental school?

Is it absolutely necesarry to have taken their Spanish courses prerequisite, or are they super lenient about everything?

I hear that instruction at UPR is in Spanish but that the textbooks they use are in English. That's what I hear, could be wrong though.

I spoke with one of the people in admissions and they said it is required to take 12 semester hours of Spanish. There are no exceptions. I am fluent in Spanish and it was my first language. I was speaking to them in Spanish and they said I would still have to take 12 units. The other thing they told me is that they hardly accept people who are not residents of PR. That was last year or early this year when I called.

Yeah. I've heard that too. So is not really a safety school for anybody that is not from PR. It would be nice to go to DS in PR though!

You're thinking of that school as a Caribbean escape route found in U.S. medicine. Aside from PR, you would be hard pressed to find how many hurdles a foreign trained dentist have to jump before practicing in the USA.

Well my understanding is since it is US territory it is considered US. They participate in the general AADSAS application and they require pretty much the same courses and DAT scores as other schools. I do not if there is any additional testing required to work in the US. They are accredited by the ADA so I would assume nothing except whatever state board requirements you have for the state you wish to practice in.

It would be nice to go to school there, I hear it is beautiful. I am going in December, my husband's family is from there. I CAN'T wait!! Some people say they don't want to come back....
