Default How many science classes is too many in the 1st quarter?

SDN Members don't see this ad.
I'm planning to go back to school in March to start my pre-reqs. I was thinking of taking Chem, Bio and Physics, but would you advise taking 3 science courses (with labs) the first quarter? I know the first quarter grades are extremely important so I want to make sure I do well from the beginning. I can push back the physics class until after I apply to dental school, but I'd like to get it out of the way. Is it better to ease into things and take maybe 2 science courses the first quarter? THanks

I would take two and see how you handle the work load first. I'm sure you've heard the saying "if at first you don't succeed try, try again." Well we have a similar saying in pre-dental, "If at first you don't succeed it will haunt you for years and no one will ever forget it." Take 2 classes and make sure to do well in them, physics is the least important prereq for dental schools, you can afford to push it off.

Do DSs look down upon students that are enrolled part-time though?

Somewhat, depends on the amount of science courses you're taking. They want to see that you're capable of handling the academic rigor that is in DS.

I'll say 3.....but that really depends on your rate of learning, and sometimes professors at the school can make your life hard by dishing out REALLY complicated tests.

I mean I know someone who took 4 science classes during 1 semester and got straight A's. Sure he's ALWAYS studying but he pulled through
