hmm. those were the dates i got to pick from when I got invited back in Sept!!! I heard the 6th filled up, too. I wonder if there have been a lot of cancellations as people started hearing from other schools after 10/15.

Oh well- definitely not canceling mine I am really looking forward to it!

I received an acceptance earlier as well.

I loved the school, friendly students, and supposedly - lots of free lunches. I guess my only cons are weather (I'm from CA) and the maze-like structure of the building.

Any pros/cons from current students or impressions from the interview day?

parameter, don't worry about it. MCW's admissions process is so mysterious and obtuse, what with all the small-pooling and the massive interviews and what-not. I just don't get it. I didn't get an email either, but I'm hoping that the letter I get is a wait-list and not a rejection. Hopefully yours is the lesser of two evils as well

3rd most state in our class (and other classes) is CA.

don't be surprised, nothing is guaranteed. I know people accepted with wisconsin, northwestern, and uchicago whom never even got an interview at MCW. And vice versa.

honestly MCW is one of the better organized ones, given the amount of applicants and how many interviews are given out. I'm not sure but possibly only WashU interviews more people (~1000).

Michigan probably has the best organized admissions system. Wisconsin was a nightmare last year when they were undergoing drastic changes, we were told to hear back within 2 weeks after interview, turned into 6 weeks, whereas everyone hears back from MCW the Friday after.

MCW small pool kind of sucks in that you don't know what to expect, but it's not unique. Other schools like UChicago have a similar system, worded differently.

Got my letter in the mail today. Was a single page in an regular envelope. Sort of knew it was coming as I didn't get an acceptance e-mail I got wait listed. Don't know what that means really, but its sort of depressing.

This is my #1 school and they knew it, i'm in state, had a 90th+ percentile MCAT (34), my undergrad GPA was a crappy 3.3 but I finished a post bac with a 3.8, had several years research experience, several (5+) published scientific articles, shadowing/volunteering/leadership experiences, and i'm an underrepresented minority. Oh well, I got some more interviews coming up so maybe I can get an acceptance at one of those schools, but basically being told i'm a bench warmer/second option for MCW makes me want to go there much less.

Yup. Med school application process is humbling. If you still have MCW as your "#1 school" despite "want to go there much less", I'd recommend sending a letter of interest or intent.

Definitely let them know you still <3 them. Maybe if you're from the area they wanted you to consider other options.

I would say it is pretty relaxed...it is a nice day overall and the interviews themselves aren't bad at all...no weird questions for me...one physician and one med student...(some people got an md and a phd though)

Default airport shuttle

I have a 6:25PM flight back home from Milwakee on my interview day.

MCW offers an airport shuttle from the medical school at 5PM. Have people who interviewed here had trouble getting to the airport in time for your flight? How long did it take for the shuttle to get to the airport at 5PM?

thanks and congrats to those accepted!!!

they tell you at the social and you leave with the student host from there...personally my student host took me to the bar where a bunch of med students were hanging out so that was fun (nothing crazy of course since I had an interview in the morning!)

That would be cutting it really close in my opinion...they recommend not making any flights before 7...when I was there I didn't ride the shuttle but I was with students who were waiting for it and were really anxious about missing flights...of course its up to you...if there are other students who need to get there quick you could always get a cab together...

thanks for the advice, did you share a cab with someone else?

Did you take the Yellow Cab or the American United TaxiCab?

I actually got a shuttle to a hotel bc there were no flights for my city for cheap that night but what I would HIGHLY recommend is asking early in the day if other people are going to take a cab bc I saw at least 3 different cabs take off with 1 student each...I'm sure they would have shared if they knew...as far as companies idk...maybe ask the school if there is one that gives a discount or something

Good luck!!

My flight was at 6:40 . I got a ride from someone local interviewing there, but others on my flight used the shuttle and got there early, like around 5:30.

IMO, there should be enough time

So I just called the admissions office to ask a question about my app (I'm pre-interview btw, only been small pooled so far) and the lady asks for my name and ID#. She looks me up before I even ask my question and says "Let's see...you're complete and oh, have you received a letter from us...?"

She was talking about the rejection letter, wasn't she.

Man I really hope not. I didn't think they've been rejecting from the small pool yet? Cuz I've been sitting in that stupid jacuzzi for forever.

I can't imagine any other letter that they would send out pre-interview... Penn State apparently sends out a "hold" by snail mail, but I don't think MCW does that. Looks like I should be expecting mail in the next few days... Sucks that you found out that way

She wouldn't tell you what it is?? Maybe she meant the email "letter" that said you were in the pool?

It's possible, but I'm just confused why she'd call it a "letter"

I was complete ~7/10, got small pooled 8/18, and still haven't heard anything. 33/3.85 OOS. Are there a lot of others in the same situation?

Yeah, invites general come out once a month on the last Monday. So next one is 11/30. Then after that 12/28. Then 1/25. Sigh.

Just got an INTERVIEW INVITE. I just embarrassed myself by doing a happy dance in the hallway of the chem. building, but I don't care!

Complete 9/4, Small-pool 9/4, Interview Invite 11/9 for Dec. 11. In-state.

I got the invite for 12/11 too, but I was complete in early July. Gosh, there is no predictability in this process, but I'm stoked!

yayy interview invite as well for 12/11! OOS

It was really ironic because I had called this morning to ask for a status update.. and then when I called back after I got the interview invite through email (a couple hours later), the lady I was talking to remembered me and commented on how crazy it was!

Really? I've been passed over again? Why don't they just reject me already and stop stringing me along! Am I just at the bottom of an ever-expanding continue to review list?

Adcom Member: Alright, great meeting everyone, now we just gotta go through that small-pool pile once more and we're outta here...
Other Adcom Member: Hey! Here's that housefish26 guy again! Keep him in the pile again for next month boss?
Adcom Member: What? Oh yeah, this douche bag...Back to the bottom you go! BWA HA HA HA!
All Adcom members together: [Maniacal laughter]

Oh, and congrats to those who did receive interviews today. Any 8/18 small-poolers left?
