To those of you wondering about your status:

I interviewed the first day at AZCOM (9/18). They told us the committee would meet in two weeks, and we would know by 10/1.

Later the next week (sometime around 9/25) Some people received phone calls from the dean congratulating them and their status changed. A bunch of us freaked out and called admissions as we were sure our fate was grim. Alas, admissions confirmed what we were already told - they were meeting next week and we would know by 10/1 ! We had no idea how people who interviewed AFTER us had acceptances and our files had not even been reviewed. Even when 10/1 rolled around some people had to call admissions to find out they were accepted because their portal never changed.

If you look back through the thread, you can read the whole debacle. My point is be patient, and even if someone who interviewed after you receives an acceptance, stay calm. This is a crazy process - expect the unexpected- and prepare for one hell of a ride.

Your best bet is to 1) keep checking your status, 2) call admissions on the Friday you know the committee is meeting, 3) wait for a phone call from the dean, or 4) wait for the snail mail letter.

Just fyi: I interviewed on 9/18, my status changed on 10/1, got a phone call from the dean on 10/2, and received my snail mail letter around 10/17.

Sorry to rant, I know how obsessed I was with this whole process and if my story can help calm some nerves its worth it. Keep your heads up!
This was my experience as well... although I interviewed on 9/28, so I didn't have as long to wait. But I thought my rejection was on its way when I heard people had already gotten accepted! The day the admissions committee was meeting I must have re-loaded my MNUNET homepage about 20,000 times. I had just about given up around 7 pm (5 pm in arizona) when it FINALLY changed to the accepted student checklist and I just about jumped through the ceiling with joy! But then I heard that many people's statuses didn't change and they found out the next day they had been accepted. So long-story short, don't assume not hearing anything means you are rejected...keep the hope alive! Good luck!

FML?
Nah, like some others have said, just keep checking the portal this afternoon and tomorrow, and even try calling tomorrow (friday) if there is no change on the portal.

Which one were you that day, by the way?

my status didn't change until 2 weeks after i called admissions and was told i was accepted. don't weigh everything on mwunet, as there are some slow issues with it. if other ppl you interviewed with have head something, call up admissions and ask. they are used to it.

Accepted! Interviewed 11/6.

Checked MWU online on the way out the door to get groceries last night and immediately changed plans to having drinks with friends.

I'm sorry about that, but don't sell yourself short yet. You are getting interviews, which means they like you on paper. You might try some mock interviews with teachers or doctors you have shadowed - to many, interviewing is stressful and not a natural process and this could very well be your problem.

Denied as well. I knew there were a couple of issues going into the interview, but I hoped that those had been satisfied during the interview. There was definitely one question I could have answered better, but hey, can't change the past.

I plan to sit down with one of the admissions counselors and go over where the deficiencies were and if I can fix them, then I apply again next year. I really like AZCOM and want to go there. Maybe I start thinking about the military school and then we'll see.

Congratulations to everyone who was accepted!

I'm sorry to hear it didn't work out. You seemed genuinely interested in the school and excited to come here, so I'm disappointed that it didn't work out for you.

Is completely flat out or did you get a waitlist spot? It seems strange for them to be this selective so early on. Anyhow, let us know if you need any help.

Sorry to hear about the denial...I got waitlisted, however thats not the worst for me, as now there is nothing in keeping me from deciding on WVSOM

Thanks Flushot. I love AZCOM and will be back for next year. It was an outright denial. Wait list would have me feeling better right now. I sent an email to my contact in admissions (Susana Torres) and will get together with her and figure out how to proceed. It seems this meeting was very selective based on only a few acceptances noted so far, several denials and several wait lists. However, I would expect that from a top-notch school like this!

Hey Biology101. Congrats on the acceptances though. My doctor letter writer went to WVSOM and it is an excellent school if he is any indication. I'll be coming back next year. Heck, I'm only 38 years young. Some of you youngsters need someone to watch over you through school . Take care and talk to you soon.

I spoke with an admission counselor on the phone and she told me that my interview was excellent but that my GPA held me back. I'm not sure why they interviewed me if it wasn't going to be relevant.

A little bit of info that might help anyone still applying and filling out their secondaries. I was told my CV was good; that it was easy to read, thorough, and interesting

Hope that can help someone in the future.

Good luck AZCOMers.

I see. Well, that's great that you're considering on returning. If you want, I'd look into the SMP at AZCOM. I did it last year and I think it helped greatly not just in my application, but my current study habits. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me about the program itself. It would be a great option for next year while you interview.

EDIT -

Sorry to hear about your situation with AZCOM too SF. I think it is strange that you would come this far for them to tell you it was a numbers thing. Anyhow, good luck on your other interviews and let us know how they go.

Hey Flushot. Please tell me more about the SMP program. I am hoping that they don't tell me it was a numbers thing. I have a total of 325 credit hours (1 BS and two masters) and to bring that up will be impossible. I think straight A's on 12 credit hours moves it up like 0.08 overall. I will see what the admissions folks recommend and maybe give them some feedback as well about the numbers thing so they can avoid giving people false hope. My GPAs weren't all that bad (3.19 overall, 3.49 science, due to not doing well in my BS in business). I will let everyone know how it turns out.

I only applied in AZ because of a promise I made to my wife to try to stay here. We are considering applying elsewhere next year depending on what AZCOM tells me.

What if you add Touro NV this year? That's not too far from AZ

Well, remember that masters GPAs are not added into cGPA or sGPA. Master degrees are like nice looking extracurriculars. It's just that if you do one here, you will have a good display of your science course ability and AZCOM will take care of their own, in a sense. Furthermore, if you are accepted early, you do not have to finish the program to keep your acceptance.

It's an MA in Biomedical sciences; a 1 year program that started in 2008 (I was in the inaugural class). Since it's not exactly applicable here, just PM me because it seems the thread I made in the Post bac forums about it is archived or deleted.
