Hey guys,
I am currently attending a community college in MD and i will be transferring to a 4 yr institution in fall 09. Does your school or (any school you know of) offer significant scholarships for out of state students? I don't know how i'm gonna pay for school other than loans and i want that to be my last resort. Pls advice. Thanks. |

Usually scholarships are going to be for students straight out of high school with merit. Why would you leave Maryland? Tuition is going to be much cheaper in state. You may try doing some TAing while in school, research, and working.

If you want a scholarship you have to prove to them you're better than the in-state applicants. You didn't say if the college was public or private, but the purpose of state schools is to train future working citizens. They have no proof you won't go back to Maryland as soon as you're done milking the free money, so it's not a good investment. Would YOU give a scholarship to an out of state student, all else being equal? That's the tradeoff here.
