Default Is Housing at SGU safe?

I was wondering if the Housing at this university was safe, if the housing available was in a safe area.

Thanks.

On campus housing is very safe. There are the occasional thefts on campus but it mostly involves people who leave laptops laying around unattended or people who leave their doors unlocked. Similar to what you would find at any larger university. Most of the off campus housing is in safe areas, the SGU Security Department does drive throughs of the more populated student neighborhoods (how often or effective these are I am unsure). Obviously there are areas where students should not live, but that goes with anywhere you move. If you stick to student neighborhoods and are concious of your surroundings you will likely not find yourself in harms way. Most of the theft here in Grenada is petty theft, they seem to just want money or anything they can sell easily and are not interested in violence. We also have a bus system which runs on a schedule so getting to and from your home after dark is not of much concern. I have lived here for 2.5 years and have never been in a situation where I was concerned for my safety.

I just did my first semester on campus and had no problems. There were thefts around campus ( people who went to the bathroom and left laptops sitting on a table in the library or other common areas without anyone watching it). Like the previous answer, if you are cautious of your surroundings and don't leave things alone in common areas, if you are off campus they recommend never leaving computers or bags/electronics in view of the windows to avoid the temptation.

Yes it's fairly safe. Don't get me wrong, stuff gets stolen from dorms by clean up crew all the time. And one girl was raped but it was off campus. If you're careful and don't leave laptops and expensive equipment unattended, should be fine on campus. Women should not wander off campus at night alone. Common sense.

no one should walk around off campus alone at night, particularly under the influence of alcohol.

other than that, the campus and island for the most part feel very safe to me. at least as safe as living in the US (just in a different way).

and, common sense
