Default Getting in-Help!!!!!

SDN Members don't see this ad. (About Ads)
I am trying to help my wife get into the HPSP or HSCP program, which has been an absolute nightmare because she has several health degrees yet hasn't taken certain prerequisite courses needed to gain acceptance into a medical, dental or PA program. I have been told, personally by an officer recruiter, that POSSIBLY, if she were able to earn a "provisional or conditional acceptance" into a medical program pending the completion of certain specific prerequisite courses, that "maybe", the military would accept here into the HPSP or HSCP program. This recruiter then suggested I do the necessary research to find such a school that would grant this.

Has anyone heard of, or know of a school that will grant this provisional or conditional letter of acceptance so that she can get into the HPSP or HSCP program?

Thank you

I think you're putting the cart before the horse here. You need to get accapted to medical school to need the scholarship, and there should be plenty of time in between getting accepted to medical school and actually starting medical school to apply for, and recieve, either the HPSP or HPCP schlarships. The thing the military does where they accept likely medical school applicants in advance of their acceptance letter is a nice way to get the paperwork out of the way early, but its not really necessary. The issue here is getting your wife into medical school, not getting her into the military.

Is your wife applying for medical school this cycle? If so, is her application complete? What is her GPA? Does she have an MCAT score? What prerequisites is she missing and when does she plan to complete them?

It's a scholarship program. She needs to get into medical, dental or PA school FIRST. Once accepted she can provide the acceptance letter to the military and they can start the process. This is the only way.

Actually if they are going through the process and applying they can be granted a conditional HPSP scholarship with the condition the person gets accepted to med school/pa school/ etc. This happened to a guy in minnesota who was granted the scholarship two years in a row but had NOT gotten accepted (being he only applied to the U of MN and no where else). I dont know if he ever finally got in or applied somewhere else.

Actually, not true. In order to apply for the scholarship, you need to be applying for school. There is no requirement that an acceptance be conferred prior.

If you apply and do not have an acceptance from a school you will be conferred the scholarship conditionally. This can be of benefit to the applicant in that having a full ride (should they be accepted) allows for the school to free up aid to other students. While it won't get a poor student into a good school, it might be the push needed for someone on the fence.

True there is no requirement but the only time I have heard of them giving the conditional scholarships was when we were not filling all the HPSP slots. Now that they are not having trouble filling the scholarship I have not heard of anyone getting a conditional
