Default Need help finding housing in DC

I have a friend who is moving to DC at the end of July to begin an MBA program. He has been online looking for apartments but he keeps coming across scams that want you to send money without ever seeing the apartment because they are "out of the country doing missionary work". Any suggestions on how to find an apartment? Anything other than craigslist?
