Our class got really screwed this year with being the Guinea pig in a LOT of classes/situations. So much so that they are changing most of them again. It's been really frustrating so I can't wait for this to be over. They even shortened our radiology class by half, with the same amount of info to learn. The new professor never taught us a single normal x ray (the entire point of year 1 radiology). We have been extremely frustrated with all of the crap we've dealt with and look soooo forward to being done! Back to studying... Not sure where all that just came from
I misread this at first as "with the Guinea pig" - for a second I thought "is there a South American Food Animal track at UF - if so, I'm kind of jealous".

Misreads aside, being the first class the college tries new stuff on isn't an enviable situation - we have had our ups and downs being this school's first class of ~125 (previously, there were ~90 students/class). All you can do is just focus on making it through this coming week and hoping next year will be better - or that your summer gets you rested up for the s-show in the fall (obviously I'm abbreviating "slideshow here...) - good luck!

Are you in my life? They added 20 seats to our class and decided that combining immunology, virology and BacT into one class was a good idea... and a bunch of other things in classes. It has really sucked being a guinea pig for everything, ugh. But oh well I guess.

Reviewing equine anatomy.... I definitely feel we got the short stick here when it comes to knowing/learning anatomy, especially equine and ruminant anatomy.

There's no real way for me to compare since I only go to one school but I also feel like our equine/bovine anatomy was total crap. I ripped that class a new one on the course eval. Which is weird because our small animal anatomy was so intense.

We get 5 weeks of anatomy here for everything. We didn't even get any horse limb examples. Everything was from pictures or a book. That have samples that the students on the 5 year course got but we didn't get them. They had those out last week for us, but we got 30 minutes to look at them. So, equine limb anatomy for me= zilch. And we are getting re-examined on it at the end of the month, so need to review it as best I can.

We had an awesome equine/bovine limb section for anatomy. We were given embalmed animals to learn muscles, nerves, etc on, and also given fresh fore and hindlimbs to practice doing joint injections and hoof dissections. Limbs are just really difficult and it took me a long time to finally get down all of the ligaments and nerves down.

So let me know if you have any questions, DVMD!

I meant to reply to your next post but anyways...
As opposed to VMRCVM where you spend what feels like an eternity on equine limbs (which I couldn't care less about)! I'm not sure who has it better.

This is exactly my plan!

They hired a new endocrinology professor this year. He was a guest lecturer in the previous year that had to throw out 18/18 of his exam questions bc they made no sense. So here's a great idea... Let's have him write the WHOLE EXAM this year!!!! The whole class was literally laughing out loud in the testing center. It was that bad.
Just one of many I could go on about, but the fact of the matter is I'm only one week away from putting it behind me. Unfortunately GPAs have been very low this year compared to previous (I wonder why ), and they have taken away a clinic rotation and require an externship to fill it instead. Here's an idea, stop growing class sizes if you can't accommodate!

I also really loved the forelimb, so I can try to help to if needed. It was the only part of the anatomy practical that I nailed. I don't know what textbook you guys use (if you use one) but we found the figures in Dyce to actually be really helpful (esp in regards to layers of the hoof). If you don't have Dyce, I have a powerpoint of the figures we were required to know and have online access to all the Dyce figures and can get some for you. I'd also be willing to send you any chalk talk drawings I have...although I'm not sure how useful they'd be.

Playing with the fresh limb was definitely the best way to learn it though so that's a total bummer that you don't really get to do that.

I can sympathize to being used as a guinea pig, not fun. Well good luck on your last week of finals!!

That really stinks! I think the equine/ bovine limb were my favorite because they the tendons were easier to differentiate from one another and we got fresh tissue to work with. Like others have said, if you need anything on that subject, hit me up.

So I have an exam at 4 and what have I done since 10am? I've sat by the pool all day, not a study material in sight. Am I sorry that I might fail this exam? Not even a little bit. Even thinking about taking a nap for the next hour.
Starting summer early. 3 exams left? Psh.

Neuro final in about a half hour. Almost wasn't even going to be at the school. Somehow my roommate, bf and I all either turned our alarms off in our sleep or they didn't go off. Luckily she got up and was able to wake everyone up.

Jealous!!! 2 exams and I'm braving a trip home in between. I'm almost immune to the agony at this point.

Stillwater is still standing, and has been pretty much storm free. wish I could say the same for the rest of the state. we're about 70mi north of the worst of it

So we're signing up for surgery wetlabs to learn how to suture and the like for our surgery class in the fall. The sign up had the "second years" signing up and the "third years" helping out. I got so confused and was like "Wait a second. We're first years." Then it hit me: I'm a second year now!

So I'm officially still a 2016er!!!
And considering I scraped by this last block with very little motivation, I'm insanely surprised at my grades
