Default Residency positions and FMG's

The question seems to come up at different times regarding the number of residency positions in podiatry and whether an opportunity to go to a Caribbean or foreign medical school may be a better choice.

I would recommend that if you are having a difficult time making a decision, visit the resident/fellowship forum in the medical forum. You will see many FMG's seeking positions for a PGY-1 opportunity.

You may realize that the grass is not always greener on the other side.

That seems to be a running theme in the Allo/DO forums also. The increase in class sizes and schools will result in decreasing opportunities for FMGs.

There was a recent thread where a student declined acceptance to CCOM & KCUMB (both top DO schools) and picked SGU in the Caribbean instead for the 'MD'. Needless to say, many facepalms were had.
