another "what are my chances" question

2 years of difficult private school undergrad with bad GPA + 2 years of almost all As at a State Univ. = sci gpa: 2.56 AO gpa: 3.30

my sci gpa does not include an A that i made repeating Bio 1, I made a D+ at the hard private institution the first time i took it, it was the weeding course , i seriously jumped for joy when i found out i passed. craziness, i know!!

MCAT 9, 9, 10 = 28 the 10 was in Bio Sci

Won a research fellowship and a volunteering award

loads of EC and a leadership position at the Red Cross

Which private school?

not ivy league, but it was more difficult than a state school. Despite my gpa being low, it was considered high for the school, its was decent enough to get a research fellowship.

Everything looks pretty solid except that sGPA. A 2.5 sGPA will get you screened out at some schools. When are you applying? You could try to take some courses to boost that sGPA up to at least the minimun 2.75

Once again, which school? Unless it's like BU, Reed, or Swarthmore a 2.5 is still very low. Your MCAT is much higher than average though and ultimately should garner you interviews. I remember a student though with a MCAT score of 30+ and a low GPA that didn't get in anywhere. Try to raise it to at least 2.75 as already mentioned if possible.

Can't be so positive about NY though. If you look at the prior matriculant data published no one matriculated with a cGpa/sGPA less than 2.75

Hey nikkisorous, thank you for your help. I attended a tiny all womens school in GA, again, not a big school. I was being careless and did not include a years worth of coursework. It brought my sGPA to a 3.05. I am guessing public health courses are not counted towards GPA, or mine would be a bit higher. i did take a late withdraw from spanish 1 , and got a WF, which is pretty much an F. I am hoping they wont care.

I understand that my grades aren't the best. I saw you attend NYCPM, how is the attrition rate there. Maybe i should spend more time taking courses. Thank you again for your response!! much appreciated!!!

If your sGPA is really a 3.0 I think you are a solid applicant with that MCAT score. You will score interviews, and as long as you are pleasant during your interviews I'm sure you will gain admission.

I'm sorry but I don't attend NYCPM ;p however, if you're sGpa is 3.05 then yes I believe you will do just fine this cycle !

Your MCAT looks very solid, and if you brought up your sGPA to a 3.0, you're in pretty good shape for NYCPM! I am a current student there. I know someone who got in with a much lower MCAT score and a lower science GPA, so don't be so quick to have doubts. Your extracurriculars also look very good, I'd wager you'll get an interview if you have a solid personal statement/application and get everything in on time. Be confident! Good luck!
