Default List of Army Bases

Hi I was wondering if there was a list of Army Bases that we can look at. I understand that the lists will change based on availability but does anybody know where we can find a general list of Army Bases for dentistry?

There is no site or list for dentistry.

This will give you the 85% answer at this website. If the location does not start out with 'Fort' in front of it - it is most likely not someplace you will go as a dentist and is not available. Exceptions to this rule that I can think of off hand are Fort Buchanan, Fort McNair, Fort Monmoth, Fort Hamilton, Fort McCoy, Carlisle Barracks, White Sands, Schofield Barracks, and Presidio Monterey.

We get to list our top choices for where to placed right? If so, how likely is it that I would get something in my top 3.

Don't expect to go to Hawaii. The Army will place you where they need you, and it usually isn't in the greatest places, which include Forts Polk, Sill, etc. People in my class went to Korea, Germany and a lot of other places CONUS.

I saw a list of forts and there's a handful of them that I wouldn't mind being stationed at. I think I could come up with a list of 10 forts. Don't I have somewhat of a choice of where I'm placed?

You are more then welcome to give them a list, but what typically happens is they will contact you with about 5 places that they need to fill and you get to choose which one of those is your first choice.

I'm Korean-American and can speak some Korean. Do you know if that will give me a better chance of stationing in Korea? How likely is it that I would get my first choice of the 5?

Not having been at HRC I can't tell you how language ability or other demographics play into assignments. Since our focus as providers is treating the American Soldiers and family members, language ability should not play a role into it.

If they offer you a list of options and you pick 1 of them as your first choice, I would expect that you should get that. If you give them a list of yoru top 5 that are not from their list, I would anticipate the chance of you getting one of your top choices is low. If one of your picks doesn't have any openings, or if 10 other people want to go there - they can't just create spots. Also remember that the summer you come in, approximately 130-150 other individuals are coming in for the first time. Additionally there may be several other hundred people already in the Dental Corps moving to their next assignment. There are a lot of moving peices every year.

Thanks for the information. I commissioned with the Army, and am very happy to have gotten a scholarship. I'm really open minded about what the Army will need me to do for them and am not afraid of deployment or being sent to a few less than desirable locations. It would be nice, however, to have some control of where I'm sent. It looks like I have less control than my original understanding, but I'll have to deal with it.

I'm in the Army and got my 3rd choice for the 1-year AEGD. 3 Guys in my class who were in the Navy all got stationed at the same place and it was either their 3rd or 4th choice. So make sure you are happy with more than just your first choice.

Great advice Doctor Tooth. The important thing to remember is to set expectations. With so many people coming in and moving every year - you have to understand that not everyone gets their top pick.

You'll have a form you receive near graduation asking your top 3 places you'd like to be placed. But like the Matrix, it's the illusion of control

Generally speaking, all Army installations are called "posts", some of them are Forts, some of them are Camps, some of them are Barracks, etc.

Doctor Tooth, What were the AEGD locations you listed?? Just curious. Any compelling reasons why you chose the ones you did?? I have a list of 1-year AEGD locations but where are they all located from your memory.

After being stationed at a base (not during deployment), how much time does one have to wait until he or she can request a transfer to a different base?
