Default Confused...help??

SDN Members don't see this ad. (About Ads)
Hi Everyone,

Originally I planned on going to Wayne State..but things change. Wayne's program is a Bachelors/masters program. I'm about 2 semesters away from a bachelors in pyschology. My overall GPA is a 3.3 My Prereq GPA is a 3.5. I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket so I'm looking for other programs now.
I'm confused if I should finish my degree and than apply to other schools.. or if there are schools out there that are BS/MSOT programs. I'm not confident as I've been wait-listed...twice.. but I really, really want to do this..

So... help! What should I do?

Thank you!

A bachelors in psychology is fine you don't need another bachelors that would be more money and more time. You can find a list of participating programs on the OTCAS website and you can apply to the ones that offer a MSOT or MOT. OTCAS makes it easy to apply to many schools at once using there application that way you don't put your eggs in one basket. https://portal.otcas.org/

Yes finish your degree your going to also need observation hours (this is observing a occupational therapist in a hospital, nursing home, school etc you will have to locate them yourself- you want to get many hours and settings), GRE scores, and recommendation letters not just the pre-reqs be sure to read what each program wants and follow instructions clearly before submission of the OTCAS application. I would take this time now to get all of it together when the bachelors is completed you can apply to the MSOT or MOT programs.

I have a lot of observation hours. (almost 250 in 3 settings hand, spinal cord injury, and with autistic kids.) I guess I'm just worried that I'm going to be rejected again.

Well all one can do is keep trying rejection happens eventual you can land it! Apply to many to ensure you get in somewhere it may not be in the exact school you want but you will that way get in a possible program. I went from a university in TX to a college in MA! I will say smaller colleges get less applicants try that route apply to all of them: Mercy College, American International College, Springfield College, College of St. Scholastica, Ithaca College, Utica College, Milligan College, Mount Mary College. Your in a worry when you haven't really gave yourself a shot. I've seen people apply to 8 of them and land only one, but think about it the one is all they need to get the degree.

I would count Wayne State out if it's a BS/MSOT. Good Luck!

Try EMU. Its in Michigan as well and they have 3 + 2 program. I have 90 credits and the prereqs and I got accepted. Shadow/assist an OT to get more experience and make yourself more valuable.
