Exclamation Will a school let me withdraw my acceptance this late?

SDN Members don't see this ad. (About Ads)
I was already set to attend school A, put my deposit a while back and registered for the courses and classes+orientation start this coming week.
But I just received a call of acceptance from school B which is much closer to home, and tuition is much lower. Most importantly I would like to stay near family.

Being that it is so late in the cycle, will I have a problem withdrawing from school A (since orientation+classes already starts on Monday)?
I already emailed the school, but it's the weekend so I have to wait until Monday for a response.

Anyone know about this?

Please answer and thanks.

You'll lose you deposit, but beyond that there shouldn't be a problem. Its not like you signed a contract or anything.

They can't force you to go to their school.

you can withdraw at any time. You lose any deposits you already paid (with few exceptions). Heck, there were people who have withdrawn a month into their MS1 year to attend another school. (I thought they were rather crazy, as they often lost at least a semester's worth of tuition).

I did the same thing a few weeks ago. I had an on campus housing assignment, class schedule, and 1/3 tuition paid. I even signed a pretty formal looking piece of paper that confirmed that I would attend. I wrote a letter saying i was going to attend a different school and never got a response. When I called they said they received it and that they usually do not reply to letters of withdrawal.

Nope. Someone on the wait list will get your spot.
Must be hell-la nice for whoever to be notified.

Hi,

If we've already received our refund check for the semester(as in the tuition has been paid through your loans the remainder of which was sent to you) and then withdraw after the first or second day of classes, is the tuition money sent back to the loan companies or would I have to pay that? Please let me know as soon as possible.

Thanks!
