Question Commute or not to Commute??

SDN Members don't see this ad. (About Ads)
My husband is starting med school in August, and we have to move into a bigger house as soon as ours sells. We are deciding whether to move closer to family (which would be a 30 min. commute for med school), or to stay in the same town. Does anyone have experience with a long commute to med school and how is it working out?

is that 30 min during rush hours? I don't think 30 min is that big of a commute.

Not in med school yet but I know on some rotations 3rd year he will have to be there at 4am. I would stay close to the school unless you need the family close to watch babies, etc. This is just my own personal preference though.

I will be a MS1 in the fall, and will be commuting to school. My husband works in the city and uses public transportation to get to work. If we had to move the suburbs (where the school is located), we would need another car. This extra cost negates the $ we would save on rent by moving to the suburbs. It will be tough driving back and forth when overworked and overtired, but we have to make some sacrifices. A 30 min. commute is not that bad. I hope it works out for both of us!
