I could be way off, but it was my understanding that if you didn't do research between 1st and 2nd year, then derm was a no-no.
A more informed person should pipe up, as I'm only going on anecdotes.. |

Well, I didn't decide on it until I started my fourth year. I went through every rotation liking something, but also filling slightly unfulfilled. It wasn't until my last rotation that someone suggest I check out derm. As I did, I immediately felt it was right for me. I'm on my second derm rotation right now and loving it. If your sure you want it, you'll need to really get on the ball. I think important things you need to work on to establish committment to the specialty include: away rotations, meet with chairman, try to do some research, start developing relationships with area derms. First thing you should do is meet with your chairperson to let them know your intent and ask for advice. Good luck!!
