Default When is it too late to get interested in Derm?

I'm two weeks from starting my 4th year of med school, and derm has survived the cut (at least with me). I haven't done any research and plan on doing a month of derm this year. Is it too late in the game to show that I'm interested in the field? I didn't want to commit to one field, especially during the limited spare time I had during my 3rd year.

Any thoughts?

I could be way off, but it was my understanding that if you didn't do research between 1st and 2nd year, then derm was a no-no.

A more informed person should pipe up, as I'm only going on anecdotes..

Default It MAY not be too late

Well, I didn't decide on it until I started my fourth year. I went through every rotation liking something, but also filling slightly unfulfilled. It wasn't until my last rotation that someone suggest I check out derm. As I did, I immediately felt it was right for me. I'm on my second derm rotation right now and loving it. If your sure you want it, you'll need to really get on the ball. I think important things you need to work on to establish committment to the specialty include: away rotations, meet with chairman, try to do some research, start developing relationships with area derms. First thing you should do is meet with your chairperson to let them know your intent and ask for advice. Good luck!!
