There is a bridging course for the foreign-trained dentists provided by the Otago University in Dunedin. Check this out: http://healthsci.otago.ac.nz/Divisio...sttraining.pdf

Normally you would have to complete NZ Dental Registration Exam (NZDREX) once they have approved of your qualifications. The bridging course is a "prep" course for those who have been out of practice for a while, it seems.

Dental therapists treat school-age children/teenagers whilst employed by the District Health Boards under the supervision of a dentist. I know of few foreign-trained dentists who have chosen therapists pathway instead of the dental pathway. They enjoy what they do and they are happy.

Don't know much about permanent residency issue.

Hey, I was wondering how long is the dental program in NZ (years), and what kind of Grade point average are they looking for from students from North America?

thanks

Otago University's dental program is 5 years long. You can check it out on www.otago.ac.nz. You need to complete Health Sciences First Year where you need to take all the prescribed papers (English, Biology, Chemistry etc.) as well as now you need to take UMAT or DAT/MCAT. If your credential are good then you will get an interview. GPAs alone won't get you into the dental school.
