Default IM prelim year in LA?

Hey y'all:

How would you rank the LA IM programs in terms only of how PLEASANT a preliminary year would be.

Pleasantness being a term that encompasses many things, but mostly can be defined as inversely proportional to malignant attitude and work hour violations:

Kaiser Permanente
Cedars Sinai
UCLA
UCLA-VA
White Memorial
Huntington memorial

Thank youse

Is it difficult to get a prelim spot at these places? What about for an FMG or DO?

Default white memorial

I'm a resident there now, and white memorial prelim spots like any prelim spots in California are hard to come by. WE DO NOT TAKE FMGS. I believe we are one of the more competitive programs for prelim in california because the workload isn't as much as an academic place, and only 2 ICU months in first year. There is 4 spots, and usually the top choices are chosen. It certainly helps if you know facutly or residents there, or if you did a rotation. hope this helps. High board scores are a must!!!

What about a US citizen who went to SGU or ROSS? What about a DO student from lets say Western COM?

I am currently doing a masters at Chicago Medical School, and chances are I ll probably get into CMS, but I was just wondering about the two options I mentioned.

I think I made my earlier post a very long time ago, when I was consider both options. Still kinda am, but looks like I might be at CMS.

I would say the best two places overall to do prelim in LA (a good educational experience without malignancy) are Cedars Sinai and Olive View-UCLA. UCLA-VA no longer exists (combined with Cedars). I don't know much about Kaiser. UCLA is a very, very hard prelim year. Huntington is easy (too easy? from what I have heard)

Good luck
