Hey y'all,
I am one of those less common (about to be) psychiatry residents who loved internal medicine and almost chose it. In psych, we have four months of medicine during our intern year. We also do a bunch of consult psych to medicine floors in later years. Does anyone who has completed intern year have suggestions for good books for preparation for those months? Obviously someone like me has had a lot less medicine experience than y'all in med school (since I was doing more psych!). We don't have to do critical care (although I did one elective), so that's less important. But we do have to do general inpatient, admitting patients and everything else.
I'd like to know:
1. what can I read now?
2. what should I have in my pockets?
I totally found that some of the good overview books for interns helped me in psych AI's as a 4th year. So, I'm expecting the same would be true for medicine. I'm sure I can't exactly "prepare" for everything that will happen, but I would feel more comfortable if I had some reading under my belt on the major things to expect, most common work ups, and all that.
Thanks,
felicity
