Default Dentistry in Dubai or Qatar area... anyone know?

SDN Members don't see this ad. (About Ads)
Does anyone know what the work conditions of a General Dentist (educated from U.S.A.) is like in Dubai or Qatar area? Like what the type of case work done, public/private, insurance, and salary?

Also, do they get free housing, car, and all that?

Oh okay, so just a DMD/DDS wouldn't be sufficient for a position? What about cases, conditions and salary? Thanks.

I did my BDS from India , i was working in UAE for 2 years . to get licenced you have to pass a written exam of about 100 questions . then a practical exam with viva , class 2 cavity prep and amalgam filling and sometimes a extraction . you have to take your own patient . but you have only 3 chances at the exam .
exams are conducted 3-4 times a year . they give importance to degree holders from America or cananda or australia ,so you will be paid pretty well . the exam is not hard to pass . preety easy .

good luck

hi perav,

can u share more details about your stay in UAE. I am also a BDS from india and have about 7 years of private practice exp.

I heard that for BDS people..it is very difficult to clear exam of MOH. Do you require some local person influence for getting license..

would appreciate your help.

* the best is to work in gov. hospital

I had a classmate who's working in Dubai now as a dentist, I can tell you he's rolling all over in mulah now. If I had not migrated to the states last year, working in the UAE would be a dream job.

One more thing....i talked to an orthodontist from India working in Dubai and he told me to finish DDS and then come to Dubai for work becos American/Canadian degrees r preferred to Indian BDS.My uncle is a HR manager there and he told me if u have American/Canadian PR or citizenship , the pay is 10 times more!

lot of misconceptions....about dream jobs in dubai..

worst mistake in life if you are a youngster and an american dental degree holder and trying to make a life in Dubai!

PM me for a detailed analysis as given by a close friend who's been there and seen it all..

remember, the grass is always greener on the other side...

With Indian BDS ur earning potential in Dubai will be very very low.The cost of living in Dubai is so high that my friend's hubby who is MDS in prosthodontics from India working in Dubai is planning to come back to India and start his own clinic since 3/4th of his salary goes towards just rent!!
Talk to people who've been there and make the right decision.
Good Luck!

I had a BDS from the middle east and I tried applying for jobs there (in the gulf in general) .....the pay is much less than what you would get with an american/british/canadian degree..I don`t think the nationality is an issue...its all about the degree! ..you have to take that test and you need at least 3-5 years work experience....most ask for 5 years (for a BDS)!

but then, I got my american DDS, I asked around about working in that area and quiete honestly, its not worth it!!! one of the companies offered 65000 us$ , no tests, although it is tax free but it would be ridiculous for a guy with an American DDS to work for that much money when he can double or triple that amount in the us (at least)! it might make more since for a British Dentist to do so since they make much less money than americans!
UAE or Qatar might look rich comparing to its surroundings, but its simply incomparable to the us! ....a bit harsh ...but its the truth!

I am a dentist from Nigeria, Africa with 4 years working experience. I will like to work/practice in Dubai so i'd like to know if i have to do any exams before i'm eligible. If i have to, what are the next steps for me to take now as i am presently in Nigeria. I'd also be grateful if u can fill me in on the remuneration and the benefits of working in dubai for someone presently in a developing country like me. thanks

Default Boston University, Dubai

Dear ZeeZou..
as per present rules of the DOH, 5 yrs of experience are required to practice in dubai. The DOh exams also need to completed before you get the required license.
Also, its always easier to find an employer first, and go for the license through the employer.

fefzie, HYDBDS.. had you also applied for the MSD at Boston, Dubai..?
I recently recieved my acceptance for the MSD in Pros.

Hey HYDBDS...

are you going to NYU or BUSDM dubai?? If I was you I would choose the DDS at NYU! atleast you know u'll make good money when u graduate in US. From what ive heard dentistry in dubai is not that lucrative enough to pay off our loans in thousands of dollars..unless we spend 15 years doing so!
anyone please throw light on this...
thanks!

All programs at this univ are not accredited by ADA. Therefore, their certificates will NEVER entitle you for any sort of licensure in the states.

along the lines of international dentistry-

Would an American trained dentist be able to use that degree in the UK or any other European nation? How about in South America? Also, how realistic would it be to be hired as an american dentist in the UK, etc?

Would the Dental degree suffice or would additional exams be needed? Also, would one need to go back to dental schools in that particular country in order to work there? (For any country.)

Thank you for any information. =)

Hi Thanks for the information but I have more questions.
I am a Canadian citizen with an American degree in dentistry. I hold both a Canadian and US license. Could you lead me to any goverment hospitals in Dubai that would be hiring, how do I go abouts applying. Also, is there examinations for my qualifications? I have 5 years experience.
Thank you

Hey, I just read your post of last year. I'm considering a position in a practice at DHCC but reading things on this forum make me nervous/confused
I am a DDS and prosthodontist, US trained Kenyan national. Do you mean to say the salary package in such a place is race based? I worked in the US number of years and there is no such thing as a "Fixed salary" one is compensated a percentage (usually around 30%) of whatever the dentist collects and depending on rate of collections per wage period that figure is factored into whatever one produces ( since insurance companies can pay up to 6 months late.) This has been the scheme in all countries I have worked in ( three of them) and to date I have 13 years experience. This is not the case in the private sector? What actually is the story with DHCC? Is there a centralized payroll at DHCC administration that metes out salaries to doctors in the private practices based on some of the things mentioned in this forum?
Thanks:-)

Default I work in dubai as a dentist

It does not matter where you are from or which university you graduated from, we ALL have to do the same test to get a license and work here, north americans, europeans, indians everybody! I got my degree from a country in central america and I'm doing over $130000 a year which is more than enough for me with 3 days off per week, your salary clearly depends on how GOOD you are, and in how you love dentistry...the opportunities are our there for everybody.

hey people do not do this for money, do it cause you are professionals and got a lot to give to this field...

of course 3 years minimum (previous) experience is expected, it's a lovely country, safe, interesting people everywhere it's woth it
