Is it ok to apply to MD and DO schools at the same time? I prefer going to a MD school, and DO is my backup. Does anyone think that MD schools will question me for applying to both types of schools?

yes you can apply to both..they are two seperate processes. neither school will know if you applied to other unless you tell them.

You can apply to both schools. They don't care if you do.

Its always possible that somewhere down the line you will be asked that question. You should have an answer prepared. I'm not suggesting that you lie, but saying that DO is your "backup" might not be the best way to answer the question. You might want to say, "I want to be a doctor more than anything. It would be remiss of me not to pursue every potential avenue to insure that I reach my goal."
