Lightbulb Mount Sinai (MSSM)

Has anyone heard back from MSSM? Once you get the e-mail, how long must you wait before you interview?

I was complete at MSSM around 10/12 and got an email asking for an interview invite about a week later (10/18). The date they scheduled me for an interview was for 11/7 but I had to reschedule it for later because of another interview. Hope that helps!

I'm pretty sure that, by now, Mount Sinai would be scheduling interviews for the spring. I received my interview invite on 9/19, and my interview is scheduled for 12/15. Their interview season seems to start a little later than most other schools'.

A little off topic, do they send you an email when you're complete? And if not, how do you check that they received your letters?

Thanks a ton.

They give you invites based on your desireability, I think. I received mine in early september for an December 18 interview. Clearly I'm not as desireable as some ...

I don't think they send emails for being complete--there's a phone number listed in the phone/status check thread that you can call Monday and Wednesday between 2 and 4 pm. It works! That's how I knew I was complete.

I'm with Mellybean on this one. I finished my app pretty early (in August), and my interview invite is for 12/15. Is anyone else going to go on that day?

LOL, I think that's my interview date, too. Guess I'll see you there.

I'm not sure whether it's a desirability issue (knowing me, it probably is) or whether it's an issue of someone else bowing out and your being in the area...ah well, an interview is an interview is an interview!

I think mount sinai def has some criteria (whether its desirability, geography, or whatever) for scattering dates because I got an invite in early october for a date in february. I called to try to move it earlier and they moved me to January, saying that it "was booked solid" until then....I question if this is true or not :-)

i speculate that there is a random factor in interview scheduling, as folks withdraw their interview spots when they get acceptances from other schools. with random openings of spots, people who get offered an interview later may be able to schedule their interview for earlier than those who get offered an interview earlier.

Think so--I got mine a few business days--3 or 4--after AMCAS verified. That was early October.

Does anyone who has received the acceptance packet know if we have to have the toxicology screening done by a certain day. Also is it necessary to forward our current official transcripts or can we just wait till the end of next semester to send them? I tried calling the admissions office today to ask but no one answered.

i called on friday and they said that you can submit the toxicology test as late as 2 weeks before classes start in mid-August. you can wait to send in your transcript too (she said that some students hadn't done it even on the first day of classes, not that you should do this). the most important thing is submitting the official acceptance letter by the date required. hope that helps!

For those of you who have received acceptances to Sinai - how long did you have to wait after your interview to hear?

when they explained the process tehy said that the adcom meets every tuesday and then a "super secret committee" meets every 5 weeks to determine who gets in and who doesn't. I found that kind of confusing...so should I just figure that the adcomm met in the beginning of Nov, then prob again in Dec then I won't hear till like mid-Jan?

i think what happens is that on every tuesday they meet to discuss everybody who's been interviewed that week. then there's another "super secret meeting" to decide who to admit/waitlist/reject.

Does anybody know when the next batch is going out?

I interviewed on November 17th so I missed the first one *sigh*

Also, did you all like Mount Sinai? I was getting negative vibes from the students. Or is that just me?

I dunno, I got incredibly good vibes from all the students there. I stayed with an apartment with 6 students from there. One of the students was injured during a basketball game (sprained his ankle or something) and everyone in the apt took him to the ER. I thought that was some incredible class spirit.

I really loved the school. I interviewed 12/8 and I know its very soon after to be even thinking about when I will hear but I just was trying to figure out when I should start stalking my gmail, lol. My interview was actually on the last day of anatomy lab and so they were having "no pants lab" so I really got the vibe that the students were laid back and love to have fun...

I do research at Mt Sinai and sometimes interact with students. I've never met an unhappy mssm student (except one, but I'm pretty sure she was just an unhappy pseron all around). Everyone from the professors, to the research fellows, to the grad students, to the med students, to the research coordinators seem to like it here. And honestly, I love it myself. There are a few cons and i'm sure you'll find that they're trivial. For example, there isn't a huge selection of restaurants around... but you're close to the subway. The cafeteria has substandard coffee (unless it's chocolate almond day!) but there is a starbucks in the lobby. err what else. yeah that's about it!

They also have a great MSTP program (which got great reviews and I believe recieved more funding this year).

In terms of clinical training... well, someone I worked with went to NYU and percieved the students here as being pampered.. But, i think anyone coming from Bellvue will think the same about most hospitals. When I was in college I heard people speak very highly of the clinical training they recieved at Sinai. Just ask around, I guess.

Glad that we could provide some amusement for you. Anatomy lab just is not the same when encumbered by pants.

We are very laid back at Sinai. If you have any questions...

They send out acceptances in bunches. If you reread part of the thread you'll see that we figured out that they're probably going to be sending some again soon and then not again until after the holidays...

has anyone heard any decisions from mount sinai lately? interviewed a few weeks ago, and i think i remember jessica say that we would likely hear about our status before the holidays. well, as the song goes, it's beginning to look a lot like christmas (and hanukkah has already been going), so the holiday season is upon us.

good luck to everyone waiting to hear back from sinai, one way or another.

ahhh, finally, 100th post

Has anyone heard anything from Sinai today? If we interviewed in the last month, I thought we were supposed to hear before 'the holidays'

On a side note, my secondary essay for sinai is almost like me getting down on my knees and begging them while telling them how much I loved them. It's so sickeningly groveling that I'm almost nauseated, but whatever.

Figured I had no chance anyways, so might as well just ramble about how awesome they are and how I wuv them. haha.
