Just some encouragement from an MS2. There are many many people who can do very well in medical school despite a score of < 30. I can tell you there are several who are in the top quartile of my med school class that scored < 30. If you look in the step 1 forum you'll see the same thing that people can still do very well on the boards provided they are willing to put in the time and effort.

I was granted interviews at both:

-Florida International University
-Creighton University

...before they had my new MCAT score in hand. So what they saw was my MCAT score of 27-S.

My current MCAT score (as of 9/24) is 31-Q.

Granted, I am an alumnus of Florida International University and I saved the life of one of their professors, so that might have helped my case some.

I am also registered with Med-MAR and that might have something to do with my luck...but I've worked long and hard for the opportunity to apply to med school--so please do not make any off the cuff comments about URMs. I have earned my keep and I am just as qualified as the next person.

No need to explain yourself or contribute any of your success to the med-MAR. as you said you have earned your keep and are just as qualified as the next. Regardless of whether you say that or not, people are always gonna hate when you get love from schools that they have been rejected from. Its just the way it is and theres nothin you can do about. You know you deserve to be in the position you are in. Let the haters do what they need to do to stroke their egos!

As a re-applicant, not having any interviews yet is really getting me nervous. I know it is early, but being on hold at SUNY Upstate and GWU as of today is not helping.

sigh.. me too mbe36. i am complete everywhere and basically just waiting praying and hoping for interviews. it's really frustrating but it's still somewhat early. now if it was october 30th, i would be a little more panicky.. but at this point i figure there is still some time.. good luck !

Hang in there, gang!

You never know when those interview invites will land in your inbox. For me, almost all 4 invites (one from one of my dream schools) have happened when I was away from my computer. Important to note: I spent as much of my time awake watching the google notifier for new mail and checking my status pages neurotically.

And for the record: my MCAT is 30R, so it can happen!!

Keep your heads up and hopes flying high!

Default advice

Hey guys! I am in the same MCAT boat as you guys...Any suggestions on schools to add? I know it is getting late, but I think i might want to add some more. I'm working soooooooo much to pay for these absurd application fees and even though I probably can't afford it, I want to add some more! Any advice would be great and thank so much

Default Another one!

Wanted to give this thread a bump to encourage everyone!

Got another OOS interview invite this past week. So I'm up to 3 with a 3.5/28. And for anyone that may ask, no, I'm not a URM.

Default Thank you!

I have been SO nervous with my sub-30 MCAT score, but reading this thread has given me lots of hope. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who contributed, and hopefully I'll have something to say soon! (I've been complete at most schools for about 3 weeks, and am getting nervous...)

These threads are very encouraging.. but I can't help but get discouraged... I'm freaking out reading all the SDN-ers getting lots of interviews...

Most of my schools haven't even e-mailed me stating that I was complete, and I submitted them at the end of August.

The schools that I have been complete in first week of September, I haven't heard back yet...

I received one interview from RWJ... and feel as if that will be the only interview I will be getting this round...

Sorry if I sound depressed. Any advices??

sooo I've been checking this thread a lot to try to give myself hope, but now I can provide some hope for the rest of you!

I just got an interview at my state school for next month. they do take the highest composite of subscores.

my MCATS were...
April 08: 8, 10, 8 R = 26R
July 08: 8, 7, 9 Q = 24Q
Composite: 8, 10, 9 R = 27R

And no, I am not an URM.
I got an interview in the 2nd of 6 interview batches they have over the year. thus, I have an "earlier interview," which according to SDN is coveted by most since schools offer interviews to their better applicants first. I was also only complete 1-2 weeks before they handed out interview invites for that 1st batch of interviews, so I may have not even been read in time for that first batch.

good luck to everyone! if I can get an interview, ANYONE can

Default 28O 3.05 cumulative GPA-6 Interviews

I took the MCAT twice and got a combined 28O (9 PS, 9VS, 10BS) and have 6 interviews so far:
VCU
Case Western Reserve
University of South Carolina
University of Louisville
Howard University
Drexel University

All I would say is if you get a secondary try and write why you are qualified for medical school and convey it in a passionate way. Keep the faith and good luck to everyone!

Hi,
I applied to the following schools so far:
MUSC
UND
UMNTC and Duluth, MN
Temple
Drexel
FIU
Wright State U
University of Kansas
University of Oklahoma
University of Colorado
Boston U
George Washington
Rush
Rosalind Franklin
Creighton
Albany Medical College
DO: RVU, CCOM, PCOM

So far, I got one rejection from Boston U and 1 interview from a DO school.
My MCAT scores: 27 Q
GPA: 3.97 UG and 3.73, 3.76 in two M.S. engineering degrees
ECs: average, 242 hrs. hospital volunteering, 25 hrs. shadowing, 12 hrs. of non-clinical volunteer hrs., lots of job experience (I am a non-trad), mom to a one-year old.

Do you guys have any other suggestions for med schools? I don't want to apply to U of Toledo and Tulane. Just don't care to live there.
Thanks!

Don't give up hope, guys! I have a combined total of 29Q, with my highest score from one test being a 28Q (I took it twice), and I got my first interview invite today...from NYU!.

I'm in-state and was complete late July, so maybe those two factors helped a little.

And I'm a non-URM

You're top gun on this thread so far with regard to getting an interview at the most competitive school.

Congrats.

Congrats man. So jealous. Rooting for your acceptance!

I have a 29Q too.

If I could get an interview at any one of my schools, I'd be so stoked. If it were a school on par with NYU, I wouldn't know what to do with myself.

There is always good news for us with lower MCAT scores. I'm a non-science major and ended up with a 27O on my MCAT. However, I have had one interview and acceptance from U of L (in state) so far. We all just need to keep our heads high, think positively, and remain patient.

I just received an email today inviting me to interview at UT COM and my MCAT was a 27...I have a 3.8 science GPA and a 3.9 cum GPA, so that might be it. Good luck!

I have a 29Q. Applied broadly. Got an interview with only one MD school so far. Haven't got any other interviews at any other programs.

However, the interview that I had has not yet responded. Don't know-- maybe I could send an email or call in?

Also, is it a good idea to email the schools which we think we have a good shot at to see if an interview is forthcoming or not?

Good luck to all.
