Welcome to BGU! I am a second year right now, and would be happy to answer questions if you have any. BTW, we have a facebook group which might get you access to more current students if you have questions.
Looking forward to meeting you.

i had my interview in August actually, but their first committee meeting was at the end of october. I think they have one or two meetings a month, so you just have to wait for your name to come up. I had to wait a long time, but i don't think you will.

Hi guys, a couple quick questions to those at BGU MSIH if you don't mind -
Is it more difficult to finance your education than at a US school? Is overall quality of education comparable/better than a US school? I just received an email advertisement for this school - I hadn't looked outside the US when applying (via AMCAS)... I emailed them and they said it wasn't too late to apply. I'm 100% committed to working in international health, but the BGU program sounds too perfect. I have an acceptance at a US school, but it doesn't have much of an international health program. Advise appreciated, thanks |

Hey im currently attending MSIH. Students at our school are eligible for the same loans one would recieve for medical school in the United States. The education is on par with what one would recieve in the United states although hearing from friends back home it is definitly a little bit more relaxed atmosphere. Check the residencies matching on the bgu website and you'll see that our students are getting into very competivite residencies. The International component is a great part of our school and you will definitly not get that somewhere else which is why many students in our program have turned down excellent schools in the United States to come here. If you have any other questions or concerns pm me.

Hey I got an email for the MSIH at BGU. I had never heard of it before and from what I've read it sounds really good. Do they send an email to everyone or to select people (i didn't apply to colombia and I live in florida). What are the average stats? I have a 28s and a 3.219 and need to retake 1 course next semester, so i dont think it's worth applying this cycle (for 85 dollars). any advice people?

Does anyone know when the next adcom meeting is? I interviewed in October and not sure when they meet again. Also, does anyone know what the chances are of getting in after the interview? Does applying earlier help your chances at all? I am really excited about the prospect of attending the school so any information would be great. (3.2 undergad, 3.8 grad, 29S)

Hey guys,
I don't know if they send an email out to everyone. I don't think they did that as much when I was applying. We just got a new PR guy, so that may be one of the new initiatives. As far as I know, applying early is always good. Just sit tight and you'll hear soon enough. You can always call Alice at the NY office and she'll be able to tell you the next that the committee meets. A bunch of the committee members where just in Israel a few weeks ago, so they may still be getting settled back in. They teach a lot of the 2nd year Respiratory System lectures. If anyone else has specific questions, feel free to PM me. I find it to be a great study break! Best Wishes |

Dont worry about the visa until you get here. It is a piece of paper that you can pick up at the program. medhopeful...your scores look pretty good for this program. If anyone has any questions PM me.

Alice said she won't send it until february but I am going to be visiting the school around the end of january beginning of february time and don't know exactly when i'll be returning. I can write essays and such away from home but what I need to know is how many recs they need.

I just spoke with Alice today and the Admission Committee wants a third interview with me. I live in Kenay so they will do it by phone.
Anyone have this happen. Any ideas why? |

This is directed at all of the upperclass at BGU
I am trying to arrange a visit to the campus in Be'er Sheva. I have some time and some funds so i thought it would be a good idea. I gave Anat some times when i'd like to tour the school and she said that the administrative director, mike diamond, wouldn't be there. Should I wait until he is there to take the tour? What would that add to the experience? And if anyone is going to be available around the end of January, beginning of Feb. to show me around the place, that would be awesome. PM me if you think you can help I look forward to meeting everyone Jonathan |

Firstly, hello and congrats to all newcomers, Im a third year and offer myself to anyones questions. 1. Financing your education is the exact same here as it would be any other medical school, we have loans, subsidized and unsubsidized via Stafford, and we also have Graduate Plus loans, and then theres the private loans, its easily taken care of and becomes a mere annoying task that you will occassionally have to deal with, not too much trouble 2. Education comparisons, A U.S. medical education can mean so many things as there are so many U.S. Schools of which most are not at the same caliber meaning it would be difficult for one to compare BGU to any US school, I would say we are better than some, and maybe not so good as others, but the bottom line is we are above average, the only way to really gauge this, is to look at Standardized test scores, now granted the emphasis in our first two years of school is not the Step 1, as a matter of fact you spend your entire 2nd year learning clinical medicine as opposed to a second year of basic science like most schools, but in terms of USMLE Step 1 I am pretty sure that we are at average if not higher than the US average, I know for a fact this year we had a 97.5% pass rate as only one person in my class failed the test. I know some people got in the 230's some in the 240's, a lot in the 220's and the rest between 200 and 220, but the USMLE is entirely up to you and what you put into it, again our school's first two years are not designed to teach you the USMLE, so if thats what anyone wants, you have been forewarned can't wait to meet all of you when i get back from electives in the US Izzy |

jd778877, I don't think that meeting with Mike Diamond is all the critical to the tour. I'm a second year right now, and I came to visit the school before I accepted a spot and meeting the administrative director (someone else at that time) was the least helpful part of the tour. For me, sitting in on classes and speaking with the students was what helped me make my decision. If you are coming to Israel in any case, you can PM me and we can make arrangements for you to come to class with me when you're here.
