I wanted to start a thread that lists ophthalmology rotation opportunities for medical students. If you have a good opportunity at your institution, then post the info. Considering the intense competition, it is helpful to complete rotations at programs you're interested in.
Iowa has a nice program for visiting students. You can spend a month in any speciality or general clinic. There are formal didactics, attend morning rounds, and also present a patient. Website: http://www.uiowa.edu/%7Ec067111/ Department website: http://webeye.ophth.uiowa.edu/ Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute also offers an organized and diverse experience. There are formal didactics and the month is organized so that the students rotate through all the speciality clinics: neuro-op, glaucoma, retina, oculoplastics, peds, uveitis, cornea, and general ophthalmology. This is a great rotation and opportunity to meet the residents and staff at Wilmer. Department website: http://www.wilmer.jhu.edu/
